From that list we've only fought North Korea (with Chinese backing) and that was a tie

I thought we were talking about how oppressive governments can keep down an unarmed citizenry.

The issue is that we are afraid to face up to mental illness and what makes someone go do what Adam Lanza did.

We do NOT want to explore what he was on nor any care or treatment he was receiving. We do not want to discuss all the medicines many of us take, including our leaders. You know, all the ones that come with warnings about suicidal thoughts, irritability, hallucinations, loss of sleep, all those medications.

We do NOT want to discuss psychiatry, counseling, stuff like that for fear that we will suddenly find that many of our elected leaders spend a lot of time on a couch and have been diagnosed with personality disorders.

This has NOTHING to do with reducing probabilities. If it did, we'd have good guys with guns in schools. In malls. In move theaters. Walking around public spaces. Lots of them. Trained, qualified, capable.

THAT would reduce the probability.

It is a basic principle that if you do something just to feel good yet what you do has nothing to do with the problem, the problem will still be there.

Seems so simple, doesn't it?

I don't want the government making decisions about mental health. The government has proven time and time again ad nauseum that they are seldom if ever competent to exercise sound judgement about anything.

Besides, working for the government, I understand this: there is absolutely nothing that is encoded in the rules and regulations and laws that the government lives by daily that aren't open to interpretation, even when one would think that there would exist no such possibility. Ask 20 different senior executives what any given statute, directive, rule, law means, and you'll get at least 21 different responses. Add lawyers, and it gets worse.

S'ok. It's huge and most people haven't read it.
Huge may be an understatement. Isn't it something like 3,000+ pages, 6 volumes?

My father had the unabridged version in his extensive library. I read it when I was around 15 years old. Left an indelible mark on me to this day, more than 40 years later.

You can read it online: History of the Decline and Fall of the Roman Empire - Christian Classics Ethereal Library

I thought we were talking about people armed with rifles taking on the U.S. military

What is a violance? Is it a viola combined with a lance? You can fiddle while you joust? Instead of bugles, the cavalry plays some Beethoven?
