| Mongomery County Republicans! With the help of state party leaders and a lot of data, the Montgomery County Republican Party – which boasts the largest number of registered Republicans in the state – launched an all out ground game Saturday at their annual convention in Rockville. Their goal in this targeted effort is to change Montgomery County from blue to purple by the 2014 election. “We are not going to get where we want to be with just Republicans,” said Montgomery Republican Chairman Mark Uncapher. “We need to go after Independents and soft Democrats.” Touting “Super Saturday” statewide voter registration drives, community outreach grassroots strategies and the state party’s new “Pathfinders Program,” a candidate and organizer recruiting tool, Maryland Republican National Committeewoman Nicolee Ambrose laid the groundwork for an intensive party conversion plan in 2013. Turning MoCo purple “Help us turn Montgomery County purple,” Ambrose told the crowd of about 125 people. “We want to be effective. We want it laid out in 2013, so by 2014 people will know us. I’ll take red, but let’s get to purple first.” Republicans used the theme “125,000 STRONG.” Featured speakers included potential 2014 candidates Larry Hogan, chairman of Change Maryland, and Washington County Sen. Chris Shank. Both addressed their party faithful with rousing speeches that often led to applause and standing ovations. One thing we definitely could use in this country is an established means by how we redistrict. Maryland is probably the worst in the nation.

| Im thinking they dont have a chance in hell of getting any seats in mexico,, I mean Montgomery county. The only bright side about that county is that when it rains, I get to give mexicans a bath at the bus stops on New Hampshire Ave.

As to redistricting, I was thinking that as a quasi-checks-and-balances-type-of-thing, that the minority party in Annapolis should have the duty to draw the districts. Think about it for a minute and the Republicans get to draw the most favorable districts to them and maybe over time, they get to be the majority...at which time the Democrats get to start drawing the districts. It won't prevent gerrymandering, but over the long run it will keep things relatively equal.

| They need to re-register as Democrats, vote for best or worst candidate in the primary then vote Republican in the general election

Seriously? - Maryland redistricting maps: Maryland's New Congressional Districts - The Washington Post I mean, look at 6, 7 and 8. Those monstrosities were designed to attach areas with large conservative populations to even larger Democratic populations. This means there's going to be a Congressman in the House representing that area which really isn't homogeneous in any way. The issues relevant to say, Severna Park aren't the same as those in Oxon Hill. But that's who they have now. It means representation in Congress means nothing more than a party vote - they do NOT represent their constituency. I've seen algorithms where districts are formed creating balanced amounts of population and formed along things like county and city lines. It should not be the case that the district is formed based on who they are likely to vote into office - that is disgraceful. At one time, the founding fathers tried to incorporate odd things like the Electoral College to keep this kind of election loading from happening (the idea was that, since people only knew their own leadership and were ignorant of those from other states, a straight popular vote meant the most populous states would always elect one of their own for President). If that reasoning were held today, Presidents would only hail from California, Texas, New York, Illinois, Pennsylvania, Michigan and Georgia. Wait a minute..... We obviously can't - because of the Constitution - have districts that are the same as our counties, which typically DO have local interests. And that's because counties don't represent an even distribution of population. But it ought to be close.
