MD Referendum Process

With all the focus on the Gun Control bills before the General Assembly, it appears that the majority party also trying to make it harder for the citizens to challenge laws via the referendum process. Two bills have been introduced. HB493 is titled the "Referendum Integrity Act", and SB706 "Referendum Petitions".

Bill Text - SB 706 - Maryland 2013 Regular Session - Open States

It appears that since the majority party couldn't stop MDPetitions.com in the courts last year, they are going to change the rules on the number of signatures and how signatures are acquired to make the process more difficult. All in the name of reducing potential fraud. Wow!
