| 2008 From the posts I have seen, it seems i'm not the only one who isn't completely thrilled with my presedential choices this year (except for sleuth who is hardcore Bush) so I've already looked at this election as a wash and looking to 2008. So republicans and dems, who do you see stepping up to the plate in 2008? I think it is a given that cheney won't be running, I'm not even sure he can last 4 more years with his issues. So who would you like to see? Only because they went through a primary this go around, we know a little more about the potential dems. I think if he keeps his nose clean Edwards has a chance to to be the dems. He needs to work on looking more "grown up". We all know what happened the last time we had a young dem in office, and I think people will shy away from that again. And as we all know, we can live in a pretty sick world, so I see Hillary running a CLOSE second in the primaries. Edwards would probably consider her as VP, but no way hillary plays second fiddle. So what about the republicans? Who do you see coming forth? And if his name is Bush, I'll shoot you Is the only political Bush left, Jeb? I don't see us EVER having a president named Jeb. JMHO.

| Powell, Rumsfeld, or Rice, naturally... ![]() I wouldn't mind seeing Jesse Ventura give it a roll.

| I agree--Rudy would make a fine choice. I do, however, have one small personal gripe with him. Back in the day (1999 or 2000, I believe) when he was still serving New York there was an art exhibit at the MET featuring a number of Christian votive paintings from central Africa. One of them was a portrait of the Virgin Mary....painted in elephant dung. (Elephant dung is a common base for pigments in central Africa--like egg yolks were in pre-industrial Europe). There was nothing "inappropriate" about the painting, so to speak--it was just created from a medium not commonly used in Western art. Well, Rudy, himself being a devout Catholic, felt very offended that the Blessed Virgin was painted with Dumbo-crap and went on a crusade to have this particular painting removed from the exhibit. I found it rather distasteful that the exhibits in a public art museum should be subject to the judgement of one miffed politician. It's little beans, I know, but it really did leave a nasty flavor around Giuliani for me---at least until he redeemed himself after the events in 2001.

| Didn't Giuliani cheat on his wife, too?

| Rumsfeld, maybe Rice - NEVER Powell! *shudder* Rudy's a good pick. Who's the meanest, most conservative hardass in Republican politics? The one who's going to start sterilizing criminals and deadbeats so they don't procreate. The one who will eliminate all entitlement programs. The one who will demand reciprocation from all these welfare countries that my tax dollars have been supporting all these years, or cut off the gravy train. The one who will ditch the UN and give the bird to any bawl babies that don't like it. The guy who will focus on the REAL problems we have in this country and quit spending his time worrying about how gay marriage offends his religion. I want that guy.

I try to keep it in perspective. As Secretary of State, Powell's job is to be diplomatic. However, I'd bet that if push came to shove, Powell would be a good Commander-in-Chief, too. And that he wouldn't simply diplomatically negotiate the country away.
