Larry, your assumptions might be valid if the elections were held today, but they fail to take into account what's likely to happen between now and 2008. Looking at all of the furor going on over Bush's weak-assed nomination, it's obvious that anyone seeking the support of the Republican faithful is going to have to be anti-abortion, and Guliani has a long track record of being pro-abortion. After the religious zealots, the next biggest voting block for Republicans is us gun toters, and we're not going to pull the lever for an acknowledged gun grabber. Both of these issues are going to be very widely discussed during the run up to New Hampshire, and I don't see Rudi having a snowball's chance there even though he is as close to a native son as there's likely to be.

McCain is shooting himself in the foot more than Bush is, and as 2008 nears there's going to be a bright spotlight hsown on his RINO behavior. I don't see him as having a shot either.

Now, let's look at Condi, who's been flying below the radars until just lately. As you can see from the pole, she wasn't even considered in the last go-around, and now she's close to McCain and Rudi's numbers. She's been nothing but a stout Republican who's seen as one of the brains behind Bush - almost as much as Cheney. She's been very vocal about being pro-gun and anti-abortion, she's demonstrated a level of intelligence that neither McCain or Rudi has, she's got class and she's always stuck by her guns... something else you can't say about the ding-a-ling twins.

I think that between now and 2008, the spotlights are going to be on all three of these folks, and that Rudi and McCain's spotlights are going to reveal nothing but flaws, while Rice's reveals nothing but reasons to vote for her. I think it'll all be over by the time SC has its primary.

I know on the gun forums I belong to, Rudi, McCain, and Rice have been discussed and Rice comes out on top.

Let me be very clear...

...I'll take Rice right now...I just have not seen ONE hint that she wants the job.

My first pick is still Cheney.

Cheney/Rice

I would vote for Rice over the others. Heck, if people want Guliani so bad set up a Rice/Guliani ticket and give him a lot more strength for 8 years down the way. It could be someone else, of course. Whoever would probably benefit for keeping the Republican ownership of the White House after that. I just don't see crap sticking to Condi during her term if she was President.

SHE HATES BLACKS!!! Uh... wait..

SHE KEEPS PEOPLE DOWN!!! Uh... wait...

SHE HATES WOMEN!!!! Uh... wait...

SHE DOESN'T KNOW WHAT ITS LIKE TO GROW UP WHITE, RICH, AND HAVE IT ALL MADE FOR YOU!!! Okay, the Old New Englander Politicians can yell that one if they want. I really don't mind.

One last thing I have to say on that... Just 5-7% more of the black vote or the woman's vote and CA-CHING!

It's my thought that the issues with a woman president may not lie within our own borders. There are still many countries that see women as inferior. This would weaken our position drastically if it came down to serious negotiation with one of said countries.

True. The Arab nations come to mind as does some of the Asian countries.

Considering that the Secretary of State already does most of that representation for us overseas and Condi is....

Besides, some of those fanatics of Islam would have to be embarrased when a devil woman put it to them...

However, had Republicans voted for a third-party candidate or just not voted, this is what we'd have ended up with.

I thought maybe it was an aberration when three-quarters of Americans said they believed that Saddam Hussein was responsible for attacking us on September 11, 2001. But more than four years later, between a third and a half still believe Saddam was personally responsible for planning and supporting the attack.
Al Gore knows damn good and well that a third or half of Americans don't believe that Saddam was personally responsible for 9-11. I took the same Zogby poll they did and the question was "Do you think Saddam Hussein had something to do with 9-11?" A far cry from being "personally responsible".

I happily voted, not FOR George Bush, but AGAINST this nut. If I feel Hillary is a dangerous lunatic like this guy, I'll vote against her, too - for a Repulican, so it will count. Unless I'm not feeling better about McCain, because I think he's a nut, too.

I am not as well versed on individual potential candidates as some other forumites are but, I'd like to think I am better informed than the average voter. That being said, I would like to know why can't there be a TRUE middle of the road republican candidate? The Kool-aid drinkers on both sides of the aisle is what causes the apathy at the polls. The real problems of the nation as a whole are put on hold because we need to investigate someones stock dealings, or where the PAC money went. Aren't there homeless people in the gulf region? Why am I paying almost $3.00 a gal for gas? I see the current acrimony from the left as retribution for the witch hunt (that is what I as Joe Average saw) that was called the Starr investigation. The two party system sucks a$$. What this country really needs is a TRUE moderate, not a republican or democrat in disguise. Until the right candidate appears on the radar, I'll just have to vote my GOP in the primaries and my conscience in November.
