DUBAI, United Arab Emirates (AP) - Deep fears about the war in Iraq and growing tension between the United States and Iran are driving the wealthy oil states of the Persian Gulf to go on shopping sprees for helicopters, ships and tanks, officials say.

Since I have spent considerable time in the middle east working with some of the foreign militaries there that is nothing new.

Israel, Jordan, Egypt, Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Iraq, Lebanon, and any of the other countries that I have left out, most of them are trained by US forces or US military academies, they purchase US weapons along with vehicles and aircraft.

Im glad that these countries are purchasing our stuff so that they may continue to help us out in the future in the global war on terrorism. Just one less place we won't have to go to rescue a country from itself.

The downside to doing such a thing is in the case of Afganistan where we provided weapons and training to certain groups and individuals there, that they turn around and use it against us in years down the road.
