Conservative "One-Note Johnnies"

This topic speaks to the past election here in Maryland but is also a warning about the presidential election in 2008. Do you agree with the author's assertion?

Warm wishes,

Ron

Out in the great political forest of the State of Maryland there is a species that exists, commonly referred to as "The One-Note Johnnie."

You may be asking yourself, "What is a One-Note Johnnie?" Simply put, a One-Note Johnnie is a creature that is narrowly focused on just a single political issue. They can only sing a single note, which is their lone concern; however, they happily sing while throwing their babies out with the bath water.
....

It is time to chastise these masses. Readers repent of your former sins of the voting booth. The time to literally pay the piper is upon our doorstep and in large part these political apocalypses could be your fault if you are part of - "The One Note Johnnies."

Many of us are hardly one issue voters. Candidates need to remember they earn our votes instead of just having a (D) or an (R) after their name and we're supposed to just fall in behind them. Years of settling for lesser candidates or voting against the other party have led us to where we are today.

If the republicans keep pushing Juliannie on us, many will keep pushing back. We're tired of hearing "Would you rather have Hillary (Gore, Kerry)". That just doesn't cut it anymore or instill the fear that has kept us in line for previous years. Every election we get wimpier conservatives who move a little farther left because we're told "They can win". Even if they win, we still lose. Enough is enough.

Gun owners will suffer another blow as the assault weapon ban gains momentum with plenty of sponsors, plus a governor who especially hates the gun carrying Johnnies.
He must be referring to the cops or the criminals with that statement.

And what exactly did Ehrlich do about reversing some of the outrageous gun control laws we have? Nada. So now the evil democrat anti gun machine fear is reinstalled and whose fault is that? The republican party candidates better wake up and grow a set if they want my vote.

I've heard a lot of conservatives say that they didn't leave the Republican Party, but the party left them. I would infer from your comments that you would agree with that statement. Thanks for commenting! I'm honestly curious to know what the informed public thinks of this opinion piece, because it raises some provocative issues. Keep 'em coming!

Regards,

Ron

For too long, conservatives have been told you can't vote for a third party candidate. You are wasting your vote. I stand with my ancestor from now on when I consider for whom to vote.

The Republican party was a new comer when Lincoln was elected. Before the Democrats and Republicans were the Tories and Whigs. Political parties come and go. Names change. The "liberals" of today are the socialists and communists of yesterday and today's Republicans are more like the Democrats of the 1950's.

I am done with political parties. I will vote on principle.

Are you doing research to develop your platform for another unsuccessful run in 2008? http://www.ronmillerformaryland.com/

The "One-Note Johnnie" this last election was about was the war. The democrats convinced folks it was a failure and any candidate that supported it was cast a Bush-supporter (the political wall of doom). It appears to me (and you may have the stats on this Ron) that democrats didn't win because republicans changed sides; republicans just decided not to vote; out of protest. The democrats didn't win because they had the issues. They won because they had the war issue on their side.

The "One-Note Johnnie" now, for me is... Marylanders are getting exactly what they asked for because they couldn't see past their "One-Note Johnnie" called the War in Iraq.
