You prayed? Really? Somehow I doubt that you are being truthful here.

It is just repetition, and I'll argue that it is meaningless, simply by the fact that you don't even pick it out. The preacher/father/minister/etc. etc. picks out the verses and readings and the congregation follows along. You're aloted (sp?) a couple minutes before the lords holy prayer to think to yourself in private and thats it.
I don't think so. I think it's a time of gathering for group thought, group worship. A time of community - shared belief, in addition to the time you mention below.

I do more talking to god outside church, because at least then I can relate what is actually on my mind.
With this, and what MMDad pointed out above, are you showing your more true colors?

If your beef is against the established church, that's a lot different than a beef against religion in general.

despite my complaining etc. I can easily say the best times of my life were with my friends from church.

the words never ment anything to me (aside from the sermons, but our rector was awesome) and I already got the message of love/peace/etc.

I have no real problem with religion either, I just don't like seeing people bound to think and live life by the tenants of an ancient book. I mean look at the thread we had last week (I think) about the JW that let herself die after giving birth to twins .... all because of the way some guy read a book that was made 2000 years before the process that would have saved her was even invented.

The sermons, the reaffirmation of the message, the sharing with the community.... Sounds like we're saying the same thing.

Extremism of most any kind is usually bad.

And time well spent, I might add. You realize I was being rhetorical, right? And that the quote you managed to dig up was more of a lament rather than a judgement or accusation. As in there was no "You are going to rot in hell", nor any variant, in the quote.

But - whatever... the point I was driving at - even if you managed to find several quotes that directly stated "You are going to rot in hell" - was that is a stereotype.

IOW, it's not typical Christian behavior the way you godless heathens seem to be implying.

It is typical of christians to insinuate you are less than a good person if you are not christian, and you can deny it all you want. I know what I've experienced.

Definately a stereotype. I'm a Christian, and I think you have the right to believe or not however you want, without fear of disdain - at least from me. The question may be in what each side calls "good"?

Either way, I hope you have better experiences in the future.

but do you think he'll spend an eternity in hell for not believing what you do?

cause that in and of itself is pretty insulting.

I do think we'll all be judged in the end, for our actions and our hearts.

I don't do the judging, so I don't know where anyone else will end up.
