The Bible doesn't claim to be the first to try and explain anything, nor does it make any claims to be the first religion. Actually, it demonstrates it's not even close to the first religion.

It just claims to be right. Much like science (with no workable theories), and virtually every other religion.

How does it not claim to be first?

It says it created everything.

It claims to be right, by saying God created the universe.

It recognizes other religions existed by talking about how other religions are out there - making one of the first commandments being "thou shalt have no other God before me".

It says it was there first, not that it was the first religion.

It says it was first by default. By saying god created the first people, spoke with them, etc. etc. one would assume that they (the people) recognized him as their god.

Yep, it says that it's got the answer to the origin of life. It says it's right about what happened.

And, it recognizes that other religions and beliefs exist. And that the first writer, Moses, had to deal with those other beliefs.

So, I guess I stand corrected. It claims to be first, in that (while others existed) it was there even before the creation of the other religions and thoughts, because its God (not its god, its God) is the creator.
