Osteen as heretic?

Joel Osteen on 60 minutes is considered a heretic by some of his theological critics? Dumbs down religion? Makes it about the individual instead of God?

I don't get that, at all.

Thoughts, comments?

To me, Joel is more of a motivational, inspirational speaker. He uses Biblical reference to convey a message to people for the purpose of everyday life. He pushes positive thinking techniques.

Not everyone can look at a Bible and get what Joel gives to people. I like him and think he does work for the good. It is amazing how people can put that down.

Being a motivational speaker and doing the work of God are two different things.

I don't listen to him, so my comments are generalizations about any speaker that may use Biblical references. If the message is primarily about men or things or the attainment of things or worldly happiness, then the message is not doing the work of God in my opinion. A message doing the will of God will be about bringing honor, praise, and glory to God and about the saving grace provided by God.

Olsteen link does not dumb down religion.

He brings religion down to the common people and makes them smarter.

I find that Olsteen is very effective and his sermons are very well composed.

True religion is more-so about the individuals then about God because God is concerned about individuals.

If one watches Olsteen then see that he must work hard on his sermons as they are well planned out to support the message and Olsteen delivers the message like it is just simple talking without any speech writer.

Even if one does not like his message, then it would still be hard to deny that Olsteen is a true professional with high standards and high demands on his delivery.

Olsteen is an impressive speaker.

Personally I find Joels speakings in a more common sense hands on approach to life while still linking it with the bible.I do enjoy seeing his program on Sunday morning. Just my .02 worth on the topic.

Personally I find the whole Osteen megachurch disgusting. All of the megachurches are nothing but modern day versions of the Moneychangers in front of the temple.

It has never bugged me that ministers can make money.

I used to live minutes away from his church, it's really rather rediculous. A lot of churches are, I'm not just singling him out.
