Joel Osteen on Mormonism

(excerpt)

"Joel Osteen is pastor of Houston's Lakewood Church, which -- according to Outreach Magazine -- hosts approximately 47,000 people each weekend in a renovated former NBA arena. Two days before Christmas, the best-selling author made an appearance on Fox News Sunday with host Chris Wallace, where he was asked about the role of religion in politics. More specifically, Osteen was asked about the Mormon faith, and whether a Mormon could be classified as "a true Christian."'

You will not hear Joel Osteen bashing other religions and preaching hate or intolerance. This is one of the reasons I like him: he doesn't have this "I'm doing it right and the rest of you are going to hell" mentality.

No one that is operating a business instead of a ministry will proclaim anything about sin. It is not good for business. I've done a little reading on Joel since this thread started. He does not believe he was called to do God's work. He apparently actually said that in an interview. If that is so, he is not doing the work of God but the business of Joel.

What on earth is wrong with humility and honesty??? Do you prefer the lies and deceit of the above-mentioned folks who proclaim to have been "called by God"????

Most of those left the truth about sin behind, too. You can be called and then lose it.

Same for salvation. Now I'm in trouble with the Baptists and the rest of the "once saved, always saved" crowd. But folks, I am not the one that said it.

Revelation 3:5 'He who overcomes will thus be clothed in white garments; and I will not erase his name from the book of life, and I will confess his name before My Father and before His angels.
If a name can be erased, then at one point the person by that name must have been saved since their name was in the book of life.

Leaving that and returning to the original, Joel Olsteen, Oral Roberts, Jimmy Swaggert, etc.. They are all just human beings subject to the failings of human beings. They, as anyone including me, can be led astray. The only way not to have that happen is to die to self everyday and keep our heart and mind on the only one that has never been led astray, Jesus.

As to people telling the truth, I would rather that all people all the time would tell the truth. The world would be chaos for a while, but it would be refreshing. Can you imagine all the people world wide telling the truth? Hillery? Romney? McCain? Putin? Bush? Pulosi? That would be a hoot.

Joel has made it clear that he is an inspirational speaker motivated by God. He feels that he does this well, and I agree. The Women’s Christian Conference I go to in July filled with inspirational speakers motivated by God, not preachers. I leave there every year feeling great and ready to go back and deal with the derelicts of society.

If everyone has a purpose in life (God’s plan), then I believe we can hinder others from achieving their purpose (or even our own) with negative behaviors and attitudes. You will never know the true effect you have on another, but if you are always positive and treat them the way you want to be treated, you never have to question or be concerned with that, and that is what Joel’s messages are about. I don’t need to sit and hear how much of a sinner I am. I already know this but the fact is, we all are, some sorrowful for those sins and others who don’t give a damn about anyone but themselves and winning a game where there is no prize waiting for them. But for me, if I get caught up in condemnation, I know I am no good to the environment and people around me.

BTW, I thought Joel's response was

This is not directed at you Starman but some of you who don't know the Bible need to stop making these assertions. A Mormon is not a Christian any more than a Jew is who doesn't acknowledge Jesus Christ. Jesus lashed out at the "unbelieving Jews" in John 8 and many other passages because they refused to believe in Him as the Messiah. The Jews believed in the God of the OT but, when He was further explained or revealed to them, they refused to believe in Him. This is what Paul calls a "different Jesus" (2 Corinthians 11 v 3-15) and anyone who believes in different Jesus is not a Christian! Paul said this "different Jesus" is "satan masquerading as an angel of light" trying to deceive you. I can say Jesus is my refrigerator and worship it but it will not get me to Heaven. The things that you must believe in to be truly saved are these:
1) Jesus is God who became a man and came to earth.
2) Jesus is Jehovah God and the second person in the Godhead. (Along with The Father & Holy Spirit also being Jehovah and the 1st & 3rd persons respectively).
3) Jesus was conceived by the Holy Spirit and born of the virgin Mary.
4) Jesus was killed on a cross because a sinless blood sacrifice was needed to pay the price for our sins so that, when we accept Him into our lives, we can enter Heaven when we die.
5) Jesus, 3 days later, brought Himself back from the dead to prove He is God and has power over life & death.
Now, with those statements in mind, compare what Moromnism says about who Jesus is and YOU decide. Otherwise, stop talking about what you know little of. He is NOT satan's brother and He was not first a man then became a god. Call me what you want but these are His rules, not mine. Many of you are going to follow a different Jesus and miss out on Heaven. When you do, you can't say I didn't tell you so.

you preach about how mormons are not christians and you talk to others like no one else knows what they are saying or belive in. Your beginning of the paragrah should not have read those that dont know the bible it should have read those that dont know about other religions should not make assertations. From my point of view it is you that seems to need some education on the true beliefs of Mormonism. Fact find before you preach!!
