Celebrating New Years?

This thought was inspired by the pastor of our church today.

Are you celebrating New Years tomorrow night?

Although not a religious holiday, people around the entire world will be celebrating the coming of 2008 "AD". The marking of the coming year as 2008 is Christian based, as the calendar we all live by is from Christian history and accepted most everywhere. A.D. is from the words Anno Domini i.e. Latin for The Year Of Our Lord..... the year Christ was born.. (roughly).

So, no matter what your religion is or is not, make sure you know what you are celebrating tomorrow night when you tip that glass.............2008 years since the Year of the Lord...... like it or not.

Another tidbit I just learned. The #1 Best Selling book of all time is the Holy Bible with over 6 Billion Sold

HAPPY NEW YEARS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Celebrating New Years

I'd almost agree with you- except that scholars and historians alike have dropped the "AD" following the year to adopt "CE" for "common era." They've also dropped the "BC" for "Before Christ" to adopt "BCE" for "before common era." Although, some have adopted the "CE" and "BCE" to stand for "Christian Era" and "Before Christian Era."

So to each their own.

By the way- I'm a historian and religious at that...

January 1st does have religious significance. Not as a the new year, but it was the day that Jesus was presented to the temple for circumcision and naming ceremony.

It is, it came from overseas. Just one more attempt to erase Christ from our thoughts.
And all the liberals jumped on the bandwagon with little thought!

Yep. Yet one more attempt to relegate Jesus into nothingness by those that do not believe. Jesus is Lord of all; every knee shall bow and every tongue confess that Jesus is Lord.
