The problem with singing at Mass is the use of protestant (heretical) hymms rather than Catholic ones.

Msgr. Lamonde was very cool, and had a wonderful voice!!! He is getting ready to or has just retired from the military, and will be staying on as a priest in the Jacksonville area.

Oh, the days with Msgr. Lamonde! How I wish he were here! Did he get permission from his bisop to stay in FL?

Bavarian,
Why would anyone seeking Christ follow such lead as that? While I happen to agree that the Fullness of Truth is found in the CC, your approach fails to recognize that it is by the grace of God that you have embraced that fullness, not by your own power. I hope someday all will see the richness and beauty of the Catholic faith, but until then...don't assume that Protestants won't enter Heaven before you. Be charitable.

I went to church Easter Sunday. First time I've been in about 2 years. I was surprised that the church sang "The Lords Prayer". I haven't been back since. I don't like the singing unless it's song. They turned the Lord's Prayer into a song. What was wrong with just saying the prayer? Every time you turn around they are changing something and sometimes not for the better. People just can't leave well enough alone. As the old saying goes "If it ain't broke, don't fix it!!!"

We had a priest that sang everything at my church for a while and it drove the older crowd away as well. They all said a standard prayer such as the Our Father should never be sung and I agree completely.

You mean the entire Mass is sung, or just that there is more singing such as the Hallelujia, Our Father, hymns, etc? Either way, I suspect it has to do with each individual parish and the presence or lack thereof of a "liturgical committe" (don't get me started, heh).

In some ways I can undertand Bavarian's point, there are some hymns that evoke language that is stricly Protestant in view and should not be sung at a Catholic Mass. On the other hand any Protestant hymn that is not adverse to Catholic theology should be shared amongst all for the greater glory of God.

Remember, Bavarian is a Trad to a T (no pun intended).
