Religulous.

I don't like Bill Maher, don't watch his show(s) on TV but when I was scrolling the channels last week i noticed this pop up and out of morbid curiousity I had to see how bad this really was.

First off, NO religion was off limits, including his own. MANY funny spots, taping in front of the Mormon Temple in Salt Lake, they defeinitely didn't look like they belonged.. and the Mormon mafia came and chased them off.

Interviewing Jesus at what appeared to be a "Religion Theme park" complete with crucifixion and rising from the dead. He asks Jesus, why is your story so unoriginal.. why is your story EXACTLY like.. ANd he goes on to list prohpets from other religions dating back to over 2000 years BC. That were born to a virgin, were killed/ crucified, and rose from the dead 3 days later.

The funniest part, he tours a Muslim Mosque, as the imam want so show how accepting they are, how peaceful they are. And a member of the mosque comes out screaming... "What is that JEW doing in here?? Get him out!!" "He's a JEW, he's NOT funny, and his show SUCKS!" "I have never even seen his show it's so bad!!"

He talks to a Jewish inventor who's entire purpose in life is to circumvent the laws of the sabbath.. How to make a phone call without dialing the phone.. Elevator controls without buttons.. A compressed air wheel chair.. And talking to a Rabbi.. The Rabbi was talking 100 miles an hour and wouldn't let him get a word in edgewise. He must of said.. LEt me finish, let me finish 100 times in about 5 minutes.

A televangelist that wants you believe God speaks to him and he is the current day Jesus Christ. And people BELIEVE him and have made him rich!

Televangelists speaking gibberish and convinceing people it;s God speaking through them and they have the ability to translate for the common man.

Out and out a GREAT show.

If you have ANY doubt about your religion don't watch it. If you are STRONG in your faith it will piss you off, but the truth hurts when it's supposed to.

I watched the movie and found it, at times, pretty hilarious. But then, that was the point, wasn't it? To poke fun at religion, as Maher is so fond of doing. Else the film wouldn't sell.

But if you think this mockumentary is going to sway folks away from their faith, you are sadly mistaken.

In the first place, you can see that Maher is catering to the audience (that is you and me) by bring as much extremism from the various religions as he can, in order to demonstrate how ridiculous it is to believe. Hence the title. But I think the way he portrays religion is for the most part disingenuous to those who are modestly practicing their faith. For I don't think most people who have a belief in the Christian, Jewish, nor Muslim faith believes that their religion was represented respectively on the program.

Certainly, I, as a Christian, do not believe that any televangelist is Jesus Christ incarnate, and am quite appalled at the constant pleas for people to 'sow their seed' to God for the 'work of their ministries', that is, stretching out to the world to preach the same message of seed-sowing to into poorer countries in order that mis-led, gullible people can sow seeds at the evangelists as well, all with the misguided promises that a 100-fold return is guaranteed for their 'faith'. (excuse me a moment while I choke back the gall that is rising from my stomach).

Inasfar as Jesus being plagerized as a conglomerate of ancient mythological gods or demi-gods, the movie misrepresents that as well. You can find much of those accusations address here:

Mithraism. Not an influence on Christianity
