Priests Breaking Confession Confidentiality

Priest Accused Of Breaking Confession Confidentiality - TODAY'S TMJ4

TOWN OF OCONOMOWOC - The priest at St. Catherine of Alexandria Church is accused of breaking the very sacred seal of confession.

Father David Verhasselt, 62, told TODAY'S TMJ4 reporter Tom Murray he's not been told who is accusing him.

"I'm innocent," he said. "I'm shocked at the charges. That's definitely not me."

The charge is so serious that it could cost Verhasselt the priesthood, although that is unlikely. Someone told the Archdiocese of Milwaukee that Verhasselt divulged strictly confidential information shared in confession.

Let it run its course. Just wish the church leaders would have been as diligent in the past with all the sex scandals instead of trying to bury them.

Maybe they have learned something about taking on accusations up front.
