Many Thanks....

Now David is gone and Solomon is King.... Bathsheba did her thing and David handed over the throne to the rightful heir.... yippee.... finally I'm closing in on the Great and Wise King Solomon.

I always thought that Solomon didn't have blood on his hands... but he's already ordered the death of several of his father's enemies....

Oh well.... 20% done with the Bible on Kindle....

Yep. Good ol' King Solomon - turns out he really gets into a heap of trouble as you read on.

Hope you are doing well.

I am well. Solomon just finished the Temple and moved everything in.

One thing about reading the Bible on Kindle.... going back is a real drag... looking things up is nearly impossible.... I plan to go back and do a study in my thumper when I'm done with the read through project.

Anyway... I recall that Solomons house was bigger than the Temple.... is that so?

I note that the inside of the Temple is all gold and the inside of Solomon's house was Cedar that was not overlaid with gold.

I love that everything was carved or shaped off site so the noise of the construction was avoided.... how awesome is that.... God was never distracted from hearing the people.... Love it...

Soon you will find out about the "additions" that Solomon made which get him into big trouble.

Kindles and laptops are cool for reading Scripture when the hard copy of the Holy Bible is not readily available. Since my eyes get tired quite easily after a short period of reading, I listen to the Holy Bible on my MP3 player. It's great hearing a "sermon" verbatim from the Holy Bible with no extra-Biblical commentaries. lol

So Solomon turns out to be a womanizer.

Once again, I am disappointed by men in the Bible. They USE women and the more the better.

I am, however, getting the sense of the women in the Bible who make a difference and what special hearts they have that allow them to make a difference.

So far, tho, I haven't noticed God speaking directly to women in general.

Men.... they get greedy, worship other gods, and use women around them.

Everytime I read through the Bible I get a different angle. Thanks to the Holy Spirit!

Umm... Not so fast hotcoffee! Both men and women are equally at fault in some of the Bible accounts but ultimately it is the man's mistake for falling for the woman's luring enticements that cause him to stumble. In the case of Solomon, he disobeyed God and took other wives who were pagan worshippers. Then Solomon allowed temples to their pagan gods to be built so he could "please" his wives. This brings God's Judgment once again upon one of the Patriarchs of Israel. It appears that Solomon wasn't so "wise" afterall. lol

Again, women are as equal in both the Old and New Testament accounts as being able to show pure faith and obedience in honoring God.

Agreed.

LOL
Now hotcoffee, remember all things are still equal here. There are some accounts of women also being greedy, worshipping other gods, and being involved in deception to cause men to stumble. They would be the original "Designing Women", perhaps even starting with Eve.

Things are brought to the reader's attention and awareness that may have been overlooked before.

You must not have gotten to Jezebel and Gomer yet.

Oh yeah.... I'm past that Jezebel.... and Delilah too....

But then there are others that have been smart or loyal.... Ruth and Naomi come to mind right off the top...

Yes, Jezebel sure stirred up some trouble alright. Have you heard of the "Jezebel spirit" ? Might be a good topic for another thread.

Regarding Gomer, I didn't know he was, well... hey, wasn't he on the Andy Griffith Show?

BTW: Regarding Solomon, here's the account of what caused his problems:

Quote:
1 Kings, Chapter 11:4-14: (NIV)

As Solomon grew old, his wives turned his heart after other gods, and his heart was not fully devoted to the LORD his God, as the heart of David his father had been.

He followed Ashtoreth the goddess of the Sidonians, and Molek the detestable god of the Ammonites.

So Solomon did evil in the eyes of the LORD; he did not follow the LORD completely, as David his father had done.

On a hill east of Jerusalem, Solomon built a high place for Chemosh the detestable god of Moab, and for Molek the detestable god of the Ammonites.
He did the same for all his foreign wives, who burned incense and offered sacrifices to their gods.

The LORD became angry with Solomon because his heart had turned away from the LORD, the God of Israel, who had appeared to him twice.
Although he had forbidden Solomon to follow other gods, Solomon did not keep the LORD’s command.

So the LORD said to Solomon, “Since this is your attitude and you have not kept my covenant and my decrees, which I commanded you, I will most certainly tear the kingdom away from you and give it to one of your subordinates.
Nevertheless, for the sake of David your father, I will not do it during your lifetime. I will tear it out of the hand of your son. Yet I will not tear the whole kingdom from him, but will give him one tribe for the sake of David my servant and for the sake of Jerusalem, which I have chosen.”

Then the LORD raised up against Solomon an adversary, Hadad the Edomite, from the royal line of Edom.
and the rest is history.

After seeing the word "relieving" in the stories of Saul in the cave, and Elijah mocking the Baal worshipers.... [and the killing of the fat king back in the bathroom so an escape could be made]

And reading the end of Jezabel [she was eaten by the dogs and birds until all that was left of her were her skull, feet and the palms of her hands] and the related turning of Jezebel into "dung".... I'm beginning to think there should be a new series of youth Bible Stories

The "poopy stories"..... It could even include the statutes set by Moses.... in that people would go outside the camp to "relieve themselves" and cover it up....

Oh and Starman.... Gomer is a woman.... I haven't gotten to her story yet... but I recall that much from the last time I read it.... there is so much in the Bible.... I loose track of all the stories sometimes.... which is why I have to read it over again front to back to keep it fresh...
