A Maverick Proud of His Jail Time Takes on Steny Hoyer in Primary
Quote:
The spray painting led to his third trip to jail, for 18 months, which led to more spray painting. After 14 months at the St. Mary's County Detention Center, he turned his aerosol can on the Maryland State House in 2000. Vandalizing state property earned him three years, the maximum punishment allowable for a misdemeanor. When he was released in 2003, he decided running for office was more effective than spending another five bucks on a can of paint.

Cusick said some of the attacks hurt his feelings, although he admitted he has said and done things he regrets, if for no other reason than because they make it more difficult to win election.

Does that include the trips to jail?

"Oh, no, I'm quite pleased about that," he said with a thoughtful nod. "Particularly for the spray painting."

But back to the subject - it truly does not make any sense for God to create a massive universe with countless stars and galaxies and planets as the heavens, but then after death the people would be taken away as some mystical souls into some other spiritual Heaven.

The reason God created the universe (the heavens) was for them to be properly used and certainly not to discard the unused universe.

The Bible message about a physical resurrection into human bodies, and to create the Kingdom of God on earth as it is in heaven, is a very realistic and practical plan for human salvation without the magic of invisible souls along with an invisible heaven.

If there is no heaven (separate place), only heavens (space), and the earth is going to be like the heavens, then earth will be like outer space. How do you imagine that working?

Actually there are vivid descriptions given all through the Bible, and here below is one of many such descriptions:

5 And righteousness shall be the girdle of his loins, and faithfulness the girdle of his reins.

6 The wolf also shall dwell with the lamb, and the leopard shall lie down with the kid; and the calf and the young lion and the fatling together; and a little child shall lead them.

7 And the cow and the bear shall feed; their young ones shall lie down together: and the lion shall eat straw like the ox.

8 And the sucking child shall play on the hole of the asp, and the weaned child shall put his hand on the cockatrice' den.

9 They shall not hurt nor destroy in all my holy mountain: for the earth shall be full of the knowledge of the LORD, as the waters cover the sea.

10 And in that day there shall be a root of Jesse, which shall stand for an ensign of the people; to it shall the Gentiles seek: and his rest shall be glorious.
KJV, Isaiah 11:5-10

And a similar message - What compares to the Kingdom of God? - Mark 4:30-33

It is not about going to heaven but bringing the heaven onto the earth.

Ahh. That makes more sense to me now. Heaven on earth. I think I've been there; it was about half way up the block on Light Street comning from Gay Street, not far from Inner Harbor actually.

Revelation Chapter 21

Now I saw a new heaven and a new earth, for the first heaven and the first earth had passed away. Also there was no more sea. 2 Then I, John,[a] saw the holy city, New Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven from God, prepared as a bride adorned for her husband. 3 And I heard a loud voice from heaven saying, “Behold, the tabernacle of God is with men, and He will dwell with them, and they shall be His people. God Himself will be with them and be their God. 4 And God will wipe away every tear from their eyes; there shall be no more death, nor sorrow, nor crying. There shall be no more pain, for the former things have passed away.”
5 Then He who sat on the throne said, “Behold, I make all things new.” And He said to me,[b] “Write, for these words are true and faithful.”
6 And He said to me, “It is done![c] I am the Alpha and the Omega, the Beginning and the End. I will give of the fountain of the water of life freely to him who thirsts. 7 He who overcomes shall inherit all things,[d] and I will be his God and he shall be My son. 8 But the cowardly, unbelieving,[e] abominable, murderers, sexually immoral, sorcerers, idolaters, and all liars shall have their part in the lake which burns with fire and brimstone, which is the second death.”
The New Jerusalem

9 Then one of the seven angels who had the seven bowls filled with the seven last plagues came to me[f] and talked with me, saying, “Come, I will show you the bride, the Lamb’s wife.”[g] 10 And he carried me away in the Spirit to a great and high mountain, and showed me the great city, the holy[h] Jerusalem, descending out of heaven from God, 11 having the glory of God. Her light was like a most precious stone, like a jasper stone, clear as crystal. 12 Also she had a great and high wall with twelve gates, and twelve angels at the gates, and names written on them, which are the names of the twelve tribes of the children of Israel: 13 three gates on the east, three gates on the north, three gates on the south, and three gates on the west.
14 Now the wall of the city had twelve foundations, and on them were the names[i] of the twelve apostles of the Lamb. 15 And he who talked with me had a gold reed to measure the city, its gates, and its wall. 16 The city is laid out as a square; its length is as great as its breadth. And he measured the city with the reed: twelve thousand furlongs. Its length, breadth, and height are equal. 17 Then he measured its wall: one hundred and forty-four cubits, according to the measure of a man, that is, of an angel. 18 The construction of its wall was of jasper; and the city was pure gold, like clear glass. 19 The foundations of the wall of the city were adorned with all kinds of precious stones: the first foundation was jasper, the second sapphire, the third chalcedony, the fourth emerald, 20 the fifth sardonyx, the sixth sardius, the seventh chrysolite, the eighth beryl, the ninth topaz, the tenth chrysoprase, the eleventh jacinth, and the twelfth amethyst. 21 The twelve gates were twelve pearls: each individual gate was of one pearl. And the street of the city was pure gold, like transparent glass.
The Glory of the New Jerusalem

22 But I saw no temple in it, for the Lord God Almighty and the Lamb are its temple. 23 The city had no need of the sun or of the moon to shine in it,[j] for the glory[k] of God illuminated it. The Lamb is its light. 24 And the nations of those who are saved[l] shall walk in its light, and the kings of the earth bring their glory and honor into it.[m] 25 Its gates shall not be shut at all by day (there shall be no night there). 26 And they shall bring the glory and the honor of the nations into it.[n] 27 But there shall by no means enter it anything that defiles, or causes[o] an abomination or a lie, but only those who are written in the Lamb’s Book of Life.

Yes, that is excellent.

Thy Kingdom come, on earth, as it is in heaven.

As I was reading through the article it sure reminded me of the slant toward ecumenical cooperation and combined "good works" in an attempt to make things better in society and in changing the world. There are many denominations attempting to pull together with that in mind.

However, the reality is that, according to the Bible, things will get worse in this world before they get better. We are also reminded in the Bible that Jesus was not of this world and those who have placed faith in Christ are also no longer of this world but sojourners - knowing that Christ has prepared a place for us in His Heavenly Kingdom.

Amen! Totally Agree!
That doesn't mean you have to contribute to how bad it gets.

I'm not surprised though at the shots at Wright.

While I may not agree with everything NT Wright believes, I find it ignorant to myopically characterize him as some crazy liberal. If anything he's a conservative evangelical voice within the Anglican church.

But then I've noticed you excel at taking the speck out of others eyes.

Sorry, ZGuy28, but there is a difference between Warning and Judging.

Challenging false religions and heretical teachings does not have anything to do with "judgmental taking the speck out of others eyes". Rather it is a call for those caught up in following false teachers and misguided teachings for them to take the BLINDERS away from their eyes and look to the Only Truth that is found in The New Testament Jesus Christ.

Christian apologetics is very much one of the assignments of The Great Commission and that is not only to share the Good News of Salvation through Christ but to also warn others who are following misguided teachers and placing their faith in other men rather than placing faith in the teachings and Lordship of The New Testament Jesus Christ.

Jesus said that there would be many false teachers and false christs that would come forth and deceive many people and that is what is happening today with so many pseudo-Christian cults and misguided teachings.

BTW: What I have stated all along is: There are many false Jesus' that are taught by varying denominations and those differences have been posted several times. That is not judging; that is the warning that people should be told.

According to The Holy Bible: There will be "false christs" but the fact remains that there Is Only One Truth, One True Faith and One True Jesus who is The Way, The Truth and The Life (John 14:6)
