'Serpent Pastor' Dies of Snake Bite

'Serpent Pastor' Dies of Snake Bite - Mack Wolford believed faith compelled him to face the risk

(Newser) – A West Virginia Pentecostal pastor who used poisonous snakes during religious services has died of a rattlesnake bite. Mack Wolford, who just turned 44, was killed by a snake he had owned for years, reports the Washington Post. He was bitten during an outdoor service at a state park he had hoped would be a "homecoming like the old days," filled with people speaking in tongues, handling snakes and having a "great time," he said on his Facebook page. “Praise the Lord and pass the rattlesnakes, brother,” he wrote last week.

Nuts. He was nuts. Just my non-fundamentalist opinion, of course. Jesus said, "it is written, thou shalt not tempt the Lord thy God."

The problem came from an improper addition to the end of the Gospel according to Mark.

Mark was the original written Gospel and its ending after Mark 16:8 was lost or destroyed or whatever happened to its last verse(s), and then later some one added the false ending to Mark which tells people to handle snakes and to drink poison which is not a true part of the Gospel.

The New International Version (the NIV) Bible inserted this comment given below concerning Mark chapter 16:

[The earliest manuscripts and some other ancient witnesses do not have verses 9–20.] Link HERE.

Most of Christianity treats the Bible as if the Bible is some infallible idol in and of itself, so they can not face up to the fact that many parts of the entire Bible is just untrue and deceptive when it is.

Amen. My favorite statement to such people.

Matt 4:7 - ".......thou shalt not tempt the Lord thy God."

No doubt the Lord his God did not cause that snake to kill this idiot; also equally no doubt He did not prevent the snake from doing what poisonous snakes do all by themselves.

Bye bye.

This, again, is the problem that people have who refuse to understand the Bible properly. This "fools" church was formed out of that passage in Mark 16 v 17 & 18.

God never intended for people to flippantly do these things for "show". Just like the concept of being able to tell a mountain to be tossed into the sea. Ever seen anyone do it? Jesus was making a point that IF He wanted us to do that, we could do it with only a tiny bit of faith. And of course, HE would be doing it, not us.

There are lots of people improperly trying to convince sheeple that they have super powers to raise the dead, make crippled people walk and heal the sick. When God wants it to happen it will, but it will NEVER happen as a side show.

As ItalianScallion mentioned, misguided preachers turning their demonstrations into sideshows.

The Bible gives accounts of when one guy, a sorcerer, who saw the Apostles giving the power of the Holy Spirit by the laying on of their hands. He offered them money if the Apostles would show him how to do the same. They rebuked him for believing that the power of God could be bought with money. (Acts 8:16-25)

Then there's the account of when the Apostles exorcised demons out of people through the power of The Holy Spirit. A small group of guys thought they could do the same under their own ability and when they tried an exorcism, the evil spirit within the possessed man turned against them and overcame them. (Acts 19:13-17)

Trying to do things as a "sideshow" and out of the will of God -
