Islamists Issue Dire Facebook Warning: ‘Eating Tomatoes Is Forbidden Because They Are Christian’




News out of the Middle East never ceases to be intriguing, bizarre and unceasingly concerning. But the story you’re about to read actually crosses into a comical sphere. The Popular Egyptian Islamic Association, a Salafist (extremist Sunni Muslims who support jihad) group out of Egypt allegedly took to its Facebook page this month to urge followers not to eat tomatoes, claiming that they are a Christian vegetable (botanically it’s a fruit).

According to the Now Lebanon web site, an image of a tomato cut in half was posted on the group’s page. In the picture, the insides of the vegetable appear to show what looks like a Christian cross (see above). The web site reports that the text accompanying the picture reads:

“Eating tomatoes is forbidden because they are Christian. [The tomato] praises the cross instead of Allah and says that Allah is three (a reference to the Trinity).”

[God help us]. I implore you to spread this photo because there is a sister from Palestine who saw the prophet of Allah [Mohammad] in a vision and he was crying, warning his nation against eating them [tomatoes]. If you don’t spread this [message], know that it is the devil who stopped you.”

They forgot to mention that the red of the tomato can be indicative of the blood shed on the cross! Oh, and the spherical shape is indicative of the entire earth denoting the universal aspect of Christianity! Oh oh, and the little green leaves are indicative of eternal life that all Christians will obtain! I'm good with signs and symbols, shall I keep going?

Little did I realize how very Christian a tomato is. I think I'll put an extra slice on my sandwich today, just because.

‘Westerners’ (as you like to call them), regardless of our bleak economic times, still live pretty good. When life is relatively good we tend to forget the bad things. It seems most people have forgotten the horror of 911. I would bet 99% of the people that watched 911 unfold were in disbelief that anyone could do such a horrible thing. But, because 11 years has passed, people grow complacent and forgetful.

These radicals still want to do what they did on 911 over and over again if they could. They are counting on us going back to the days of pre-911. They are counting on us forgetting how horrible it was. And their calculations will be correct. They are very patient people. We are very forgetful.
