"American nuns are preparing to assemble in St. Louis next week for a pivotal meeting at which they will try to decide how to respond to a scathing critique of their doctrinal loyalty issued this spring by the Vatican — a report that has prompted Roman Catholics across the country to rally to the nuns’ defense.

The nuns will be weighing whether to cooperate with the three bishops appointed by the Vatican to supervise the overhaul of their organization, the Leadership Conference of Women Religious, which represents about 80 percent of women’s Catholic religious orders in the United States.

The Leadership Conference says it is considering at least six options that range from submitting graciously to the takeover to forming a new organization independent of Vatican control, as well other possible courses of action that lie between those poles.

What is in essence a power struggle between the nuns and the church’s hierarchy had been building for decades, church scholars say. At issue are questions of obedience and autonomy, what it means to be a faithful Catholic and different understandings of the Second Vatican Council.

Sister Pat Farrell, the president of the Leadership Conference, said in an interview that the Vatican seems to regard questioning as defiance, while the sisters see it as a form of faithfulness.

“We have a differing perspective on obedience,” Sister Farrell said. “Our understanding is that we need to continue to respond to the signs of the times, and the new questions and issues that arise in the complexities of modern life are not something we see as a threat.” "

This is wrong to claim the Catholics are "trying to eat their own" as that is so very far from accurate.

What is happening is that the deviant American culture is negatively affecting the Catholic Church in the USA.

As that link declares in the 8th paragraph the sisters / nuns are trying to promote the "women serving as priests, artificial birth control or the acceptance of same-sex relationships," so this is a matter of the Vatican trying to stop the negative influence of the American culture onto the American Catholics.

This is very similar to how the American culture was instrumental in turning Priest into pedophiles, as our society still fuels this depravity onto every other institution throughout the USA and to a lesser degree into the rest of the world.

The Catholic Church is NOT trying to "eat their own" as the poster above claims, because the Catholic Church is really just trying to SAVE their own.

Vespucci was not a pedophile, and neither were his parents, and there is no record of any such a thing, plus two men can not have a baby as they would need to have a female included.

The American pedophilia epidemic did not really start until the mid 20th century, and it is widespread and the Catholic Priest are NOT its only victims.

I realize lots of you guys obsess about me, but this subject is not about me.

I say in your posting you were making that nasty claim that somehow because way back 5,000 years ago in old Greece they had pedophiles, and there was pedophiles 2,000 years ago in the Roman Empire, and therefore that is to justify the widespread pedophilia in the modern USA, and of course you limited your comment just to the pre-Columbian Priests which is not verifiable and therefore not credible.

In the American culture of today our society is pushing the sexual depravities onto everyone, and then blaming those who do the excesses as they are taught to do.

In the opening post the American Catholic Nuns are simply pushing the sinful ideas which our American culture has taught to them.
