Christianity Explored

Christianity Explored is a study through the Gospel of Mark for those who are curious or wondering about the Christian faith.

Lesson 1 - Mark 1-3

Good video. Certainly something to ponder.

On another note..why are the gospels named after disciples with english names? Was anyone in that time really named Mark, Luke, John? If they were middle eastern/jewish, wouldn't they have appropriate names?

It’s my understanding that the English names are derived from the Greek or perhaps Latin. They are not indigenously English. But here are the translations from the Greek biblical text:

Matthew = Ματθαῖον = Matthæus
Mark = Μᾶρκον = Marcos
Luke = Λουκᾶν = Loukas
John = Ἰωάννην = Johannes

We are hosting this course as a weekly meeting at Leonardtown Baptist Church pretty much year round.

And if a church building is intimidating to you (as it is to some), we can arrange to do it somewhere else as well.

The video is from session 1 of the course.

You only have one life. What's it all about?
