New Years Eve, I Dont Get it

Whats the point of this stupid tradition?
Every year it seems to get louder with Fireworks and gun shots.
That in its self is scary, drunks playing with either one, but really whats the point?
It seems as if this is just the way for the heathen to shake his fist at God and say look, were still here, we made it another year and nothing happened. So they make a lot of noise as if to get Gods attention and then drown their misery in booze and hope for something different in the year to come.

I really don't get it, I am thankful for the day off, but it seems stupid we get off work for no reason, or worse yet business close early New Years Eve as if its a Holiday. Is there some kind of pagan significance?

It must really suck to have such a negative, pessimistic, judgmental, and self-righteous attitude.

Maybe if you asked the Virgin Mary to pray for you, you could find peace and happiness.

Perhaps it's worth celebrating a milestone, such as a turning of a calendar page. It's a chance to reflect, and also to look ahead. Set goals, plan, resolve (despite them not lasting too long sometimes!)

Here's my Facebook New Years greeting, maybe you'll soften up your ideas about marking of the calendar. (Edited, to protect my families identity)

Happy New Year all. This one's going to be a unique one for me and the wife. Within this coming year, our son will put on Eagle Scout, graduate high school, leave home for Navy boot camp and graduate boot camp. Seems just like last year we were kissing a little baby at the stroke of midnight. Hopefully there is no more having to speak of cancer in our house this coming year and by the time you read this next year, I will be a 50 pound lighter version of me, off BP meds and living the long life. Hope your next 12 months are happy, healthy and prosperous.

That's ok. We get the celebration, and we like it. If you don't, sorry. Pull your head back into your turtle shell and we'll have a great time without you.

Don't judge others because they "sin" differently than you do.

Stone, I heard a few gun shots and fireworks, as well. We do not go out on NYE. If you are safe at home, why does it matter who celebrates and how? Also, many people celebrate without alcohol. As far as the drinking, I hope I don't hear today that anyone was killed on the road by a drunk driver. That is where I will agree with you that people can act stupidly. Also, I don't shake my fist at God, but thank Him for His blessings, and that my family is well and thriving; and, I ask Him to please bless us once again in the coming year. I hope you have a blessed 2013.
