| National Cathedral to Officiate Same-Sex Marriages National Cathedral to Officiate Same-Sex Marriages - ABC News The wedding bells will chime in the 106-year-old Washington National Cathedral as Rev. Gary Hall affirmed that, effective immediately, same-sex weddings may be celebrated at the Cathedral of the Episcopal Church located in the northwest quadrant of Washington D.C. The National Cathedral has welcomed hundreds of thousands of visitors and held both celebrations and funerals for U.S. presidents past. In August 2012, the church approved the ceremonial use of a rite adapted from an existing blessing ceremony to acknowledge same-sex marriage. The Episcopal Church will be among the first to recognize marriage for gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender couples.

| and this is how they will try to take down Christianity.. by desicrating all of the Houses of God. funny thing is that it does not require a building to be a Christian. but chase us out of our places of worship and dont ever complain about services being held in the streets.

| Episcopal and Anglican are more or less the same thing, Episcopal being the US branch. King Henry the VIII needed an heir that he could not get on his first wife. He needed a divorce in order to get an heir with another woman. As Henry was a Catholic the pope refused his divorce; therefore, Henry started his own Christian religion in order to get the divorce (making the monarchy the head of his church of course). Subsequently, therein began the religious wars in England when Henry executed the English Catholics that were in the way of his divorce. It's history that is commonly known and documented and not disputed as far as I'm aware. Henry, having previousy been a staunch Catholic is the reason why the Anglican/Episcopal church is closely related to the Catholic Church liturgically. Although there are doctrinal differences, Catholics affectionately call it "Catholic lite".

| Wow, as a former Episcopalian, I guess I should have known that. ![]() I have to say, it was Catholic Lite...but I went to a lot of Masses. I personally enjoy the format. You know what's coming when, you're going to hear Scriptures, pray for folks, greet each other with the peace (my favorite part) and hear a good, but quick, sermon. I enjoyed singing the hymns too, and we had a guitar player. Was really cool. Wow, kinda nice having some good memories of Church. |

The Episcopal church is special to me. As a young child it's there that I learned the Lord's Prayer, to pray for the dead, and got a sense of a sacramental life. It's also there that I learned to make my own sacrifices -- We attended St. George's in Valley Lee (old church, hard wooden pews with kneelers). As a 5-year-old all I could see in front of me was everyone else's butt or the back of their head, and I was squirming and restless in my itchy dress and patent leather shoes. I'll NEVER FORGET my mother touching me lightly on the arm and saying, "Jesus died for your sins, it's the least you could do to sit still for one hour." We then received communion and it was oh so beautiful and special to my little heart. We attended until we moved. That place had a lasting and profound affect on me. It was alive with age (circa 1638), it was lovely, it was sacred, and Pastor Cropper felt very much like a poppa to me every Sunday. Yeah, it's nice having good and sweet memories.
