Catholics/Orthodox and Protestants believe different things about baptism. So far, the gospel convos have been pleasant so I'm not going there in this thread because it WILL turn into a debate. You can search the forums of the numerous debates/tiffs/and downright mudslinging we've previously had about the subject. In the meantime, what one believes about baptism is irrelevant for the conversation at hand.

MOVING ALONG TO CHAPTER 4...

The act of the baptism.... is symbolic.

The Baptism by the Holy Spirit is a completely different baptism.

The act of dunking, pouring, sprinkling water is used to signify the death of the old self, the washing of sins, and the rebirth as a new creation in Christ.

The Baptism by the Holy Spirit is the movement of the Holy Spirit in or over a christian that occurs some time after a person is saved.

So in this chapter of Matthew, first Jesus is baptised in water and then He is Baptized by the Holy Spirit.

Hope that helps....

Yes. I was missing a concept of the conversation. Thanks.
