Exactly. Some think JPII spent too long in office. If B16's retirement came as a surprise, then they very well may elect a much older cardinal, one who will not be long-standing, to give them time to regroup and make a better long-term decision for the Church. Sort of like an interim pope. That's been known to happen as well.

It's always interesting to see the results of a conclave.

For those of you that don't know, that's supposed to be the next pope.
I'm aware of the prophecies, but personal prophecy is, well, personal prophecy. Sometimes we only read truth into it in retrospect. However, if God deems it to be so, it will be so. If the next pope takes the name Peter, then you can freak out!

Benedict was old, we knew it wouldn't be long. As for the prophecy, as long as he only destroys Rome then we should be ok here

This is true; however, Karol Wojtyla had been a Cardinal for a much longer period of time prior to being chosen as Pope.

Now comes the fun part. The Cards get to lock themselves into that room, light up their cigars, and puff the smoke out of that metal pipe on the roof, while millions watch and wait - wailing, gnashing of teeth, wringing hands in anticipation of - what?

A good thing they do this anywhere but NYC - Doomberg would not allow the pollution.

Better they blow the smoke up the chimney as opposed to you blowing it out of your ass. I think perhaps the only person gnashing their teeth and wringing their hands would be you in anticipation of the next snide comment you can come up with about a pope.

Just gotta love the humorless, loving, compassionate, eloquently spoken members of your branch of the rcc. Must be a MD thing.

The drama that will play out over the next three weeks - great theater, for sure.

By all means let me rephrase more eloquently...as opposed to the squall of exhaust fumes that project from your anal sphincter.

Well phrased, but it still displays your carnal, non-Christian thought process. Perhaps the pope himself could quote you during his retirement speech, to demonstrate to the world how a good catholic should respond to a very low-key jab of humor.
