He was afterall a pre-runner to the Reformers and was not liked very much by the Roman church for wanting an English bible, for his views on predestination, and for challenging the Pope's authority and whether it was right for the church to own land and accumulate wealth. They even dug his bones up and burned them 44 years after his death.
I would think it impossible for it not to contain such rhetoric, it is part of the story.
