I think most people would prefer to go to a place where they can be themselves (and that maybe the finger bowl type).. though I guess some people to like to go out now and then and pretend to be something they aren't.
That's a really good point. We're pretty laid back people - not quite sweats/ripped t-shirts laid back but I also don't want to go somewhere that he needs to break out his suit either. We like to have fun and be ourselves, not feel like we're being forced to be someone we're not. He doesn't even drink wine, he'd prefer a nice tall cold beer anyday. In general, we can be happy either eating some sloppy ribs at a hole in the wall rib joint or dining at Ruth's Chris/Morton's. It depends on our moods that day.

I'd like to take him someplace where khakis (even khaki shorts) and a collared shirt would be appropriate, like ohstate said about Vincenzo's. No shirt/tie/suit type of place but not a jeans or sweats type of place either.

Jake & Al's sucked so bad the one time we went that I won't take my family back there again. After the waitress dropped 2 of our plates of food on my 6 year old and then we had to wait for them to bring those 2 meals out to us after they re-cooked them. But when they brought them out to us the steaks were raw... so we sent them back and they nuked them right on the plate with my potato so it was shriveled up.. then the waitress presented us with a $75 bill, when we couldn't even eat the food served to us.

Abner's is in chesapeake Beach but not near the water park. If you are headed North on 261 into Chesapeake Beach, you turn left at the first light (if you turn right, you go to the Rod N Reel).

I've never had a server drop anything on me or anyone I've been with. She's lucky your son didn't get burned and also lucky you didn't leave right after that happened. As for the steak being raw, I'd really have an issue with that too because I like mine really well done. OK, so Jake & Al's is officially off my list of restaurants to ever try - to many bad reviews in the past few hours. Thanks.

Oh, I know exactly where that is but I've never been there. What's good there? Thanks for the info.

The atmosphere at DiGiovannis is ok (for a cinder block building), and you can sit outside, but I think their food is awful. We try it about once a year to see if they've improved, but they just aren't very good. Vincenzo's has a nice view of the creek and the bridge, but there isn't an outside area with a view. Plus the food is consistently better, IMO.

Another vote for Vincenzo's.

We love Jaspers, been there many times. Their house salad and chicken tortilla soup are the best. We took my parents there when they came down here to visit and they really enjoyed it also.

It's not on the water, but Mama Lucias in Prince frederick is where we went for the last birthday dinner. We were at the table in the back and service was great.
