Sorry Catamarans, you were better before you got the celebrity chef. The Old El Paso stale taco shells on the fish tacos were a definite no-no, and the soggy fried oysters were just a crime. It made a pretty good oyster almost inedible.

And don't talk to me about R months - we had oysters last night at Vera's that were outstanding. Apparently Catamarans didn't drain and dry the oysters before they battered and fried them, because they came out sitting in a puddle that turned the crispy batter into mush.

Waitress was nice enough but apparently there isn't an ashtray in the place, even though you can smoke on the patio. She brought us two little plastic condiment cups instead.

We also had to ask for sauce, lemons and plates for our oyster appetizer. Brought promptly, but we shouldn't have had to ask for that.

I had a caesar salad with salmon, and it was quite good but...bottled dressing? And boxed croutons? What's up with that? From a Hell's Kitchen executive chef???

I doubt I'd go back there because the whole thing was just underwhelming.

The first thing I noticed when we arrived, is that the closer you got to the restaurant, the more it smelled like the same old nasty bar it was the last time I went, years ago. And this, while I was walking across the street. The second thing that I should have considered a red flag was when the waitress said the kitchen was running behind by about 15 minutes because they were changing over from the breakfast shift. Nice to be informed, but shift changes should be seamless.

Our waitress took our order, but another waitress did all the running, bringing our food out, getting the sauces, etc. We didn't see our waitress again until I had finished what I could choke down of my meal, then she didn't remove my plate, that was clearly not in front of me, but on the other side of the table. When we got up to leave, our dishes were still there. Sorry Catamaran's, but your the biggest loser. Ha! I had high hopes going in, but found the food to be unremarkable, the service fair at best, and over priced for the food and service provided. I was disappointed.

Christy and I were there a couple of months ago (before the new chef) and it was wonderful. Had four or five appetizers between us and there wasn't a bad one in the bunch. Plus they were a lot more interesting than the apps on the menu today. I don't remember what we had, but they were original enough that we snubbed meals because we couldn't decide on the appetizers, so we got them all.

So I'm not impressed with the celebrity chef.

I miss the good old days when Catamarans served hepatitis, had sleezy bikini contests, and big bouncers would toss drunk guys onto the road.

And did the Coyote Ugly down the throat alcohol pour, while standing on the bar.

BEST oysters I've had yet were at St James Pub!! Think we have to wait for the 'R' months to come back though.

I've had a LOT of Oysters, and I'd say they're #1 followed closely by the Oyster Platter at the Grill in Callaway (name escapes me this second).

Didn't think a new Executive Chef was going to be enough to pull Catamarans out of of the dump. WHY in the world would a chef that had a clue about what he was doing have anything to do with it?

It wouldn't be a leap for them to go back to that.
