| oil filter stuck Tried by hand, tried the band style wrench...... the canister is crushing, I hate to crack or punture the filter right now as it is getting dark, any tips before I resort to jamming a screw driver through it tomorrow morning. I'd like to avoid the mess and PITA.

| That's what I've had to do once or twice before. Puncture it mid-filter, not at the end or it will just rip open and not come off the thread. Once it starts crushing, it's tough to get off. |

I had one that I unded up having to cut off with a hammer and chisel. That was the most severe oil filter I have ever seen in 20+ years of working on cars professionally. | |

| Oil filter socket on the end of the filter? I've had to switch to those on the bike since I can only access the end of the filter. |

| What kind of vehicle? Access is driven by that, and the best tool is driven by access. I have a band type that is different from this, much better. And Dodge factory filters are some of the toughest there are. 4555 - Band-Type Oil Filter Wrench - 4-1/8in To 4-21/32in But, on my Neon, that one wouldnt fit, I used a regular strap wrench. |

| Hubby changed the oil in my Expedition. Easy breezy right? Wrong. 2hrs later the oil filter still would not come off. We had to puncture it (several times) to get it off. Huge mess in the driveway. First time that has ever happened. Wonder if I can talk him into changing it again, . |
