Leave the transmission alone until it's due!! You start removing parts, you're opening yourself up for leaks.

Even though the air filter was filthy and it smelled so bad? She complained last summer that the a/c smelled funny when she turned it on through out the summer. When we removed the air filter, it smelled musty/moldy. She said that is the same smell she had in the a/c last summer.

There might be a cabin filter for the AC. The air filter in the engine has nothing to do with air entering the cat.

maybe put down a couple of newspapers and something heavy on top to press the papers down hard, keep changing until no more oil ....

I believe the Trans Fluid is a 50k Mile service .... or if it is really dark or smells burnt ....
