Tragedy at Englishtown

Try it now.

Works for me, not logged-in.

The Associated Press has confirmed the death, ESPN just alerted viewers as of 6:58pm EST.

My prayers are with Doug and Connie and the entire Kalitta family.

ESPN2 just ran a tape of the drag race, and the following crash. No parachute was deployed when he hit the end of the 1/4 mile run.

Just a huge fireball as the car hit the sand(at the end of the run).

The guy was definitely a legend. Very sad indeed.

I think his chutes were deployed, they just got incinerated in the flames. Either way it is still a tragic loss for the entire racing community, especially the Kalitta family. I found out about it when they had a moment of silence at the beginning of the nationwide series race.

I saw a re-take of the run, and you're right, the chutes deployed, but never fully opened.

Wonder if it would have made a difference?
