I'm sure you can prove it, so apply for benefits and open a casino. Good luck.

I'm not sure if it was intentional or not , but I think you missed the point of the question. I'm not looking to open a casino. I know what a Native American is, and I know what an American Indian is. I think one is a subset of the other - I do not think they're synonyms.

Then you also know that they are called "Indians" because the euorpean explorers thought they were in India. The name stuck.

I understood your question perfectly. I was just being as argumentative as you were.

Thus, I used the more correct "American Indian". A subset of the Native American.

I know you did. I know you were just being argumentative. I was actually just making the point that American Indians are not the only Native Americans. I wasn't arguing with anyone until you put yourself in that position.

What would be the point? If you have even the slightest familiarity with American history, you would realize that the concept of a month to commemorate the contributions of America's various minorities emerged because the more regressive elements of America refused to acknowledge them in the first place.

Do you believe the white majority has been denied its due, for contributing to American history? If you can prove it, I will wholeheartedly support any effort to designate a month to acknowledge its accomplishments.

While I do acknowledge that these months are a painful reminder of our country's sordid past, I do believe them to be necessary. Being able to read the entire American story, is the greatest form of reparation anyone could ever receive.

If I'm understanding your question correctly: The justifications have changed in the post-Civil Rights era.

These celebrations now serve as a means to combat the frequently one-dimensional portrayals of minorities by the media.
