What is there to Hate??

My family and I just moved here, and we LOVE it!! I came down in January the rest came in March. The weather here is great(snow, what snow??). There's lots to do if you go out and find it. Wife and I are learning how to sail, spend all the time we can either on or near the water... and if you lived where we were you would love it here too. We came from a town called Oil City PA, where Wal-Mart was the center of the universe literally.. If you needed to find someone just head to Wal-Mart, you'd find them 80% of the time. I live in Patuxent Point in Calvert County, my kids love their schools and their teachers, my wife found a great place to work, Solomons Nursing Home as an LPN, and we really enjoy our time off. My kids all like to fish, or swim. or generally anything outdoors.. We find they are playing fewer video games, and spending less time online then they use to (generally go online to talk to their friends in Oil City to rub their noses in it a little) and last but not least,, if you REALLY hate it here.. I have a BIG house in Oil City for sale.. 3 bedrooms one car garage, full basement and attic.. pool in the backyard.. HUGE in town lot.. 47,000 and it's all yours AND a much better place then here to live!! Don't all of you beat my door down to take advantage of such a great offer!!*S*

Great news, itsbob. I'd say "welcome" but I've been here but a short time myself. We love it here, too.

There was a good article in The Enterprise today highlighting some of the changes that have happened since 1973. I loved the picture showing the traffic light going up at the Chancellor's Road and 235 intersection in 1973. I remember it, because it was a big deal! We didn't have very many traffic lights back then.

Ahhh, the good old days. *sigh*

And thank all you newbies for sharing your positive experiences here. Welcome!

Nothing at all. Trust me, don't listen to ST or anyone else on this board hating SOMD. Only idiots subscribe to boards to which they have an inherent argument toward.

The fact of the matter is that SOMD has one of the highest immigration rates and lowest attrition rates IN THE COUNTRY. And we don't have to speak Spanish to do it. The only thing anyone can complain about is taxes (to which if you're smart, shouldn't affect you in any indefatigable way).

ST just WISHES someone from NOVA would put as much time and pride into a message board for him like SOMD or SOMD sucks. What he fails to realize is that, plain ole, NOVA sucks. That's why he's is still online here.

Yea, would hate to hear both sides of the story.

but this wasn't nearly as good as the other post i remember. Something along the lines of "Don't listen to what ST has to say about this place, he just hates it here"
Well, duh. And there was a reason. When I expose those reasons, everyone flips out. So I don't talk about it anymore. I let eveyone live their merry little lives there, and we live our merry little lives on Virginia.
What people fail to realize is that every place isn't the best for everyone.
With regards to defending the area on here, it is kind of pointless seeing that most on here ARE in somd because they like it. Plenty have moved away and haven't thought twice about it. I just happened to stumble across a website while I was there that had a bunch of interesting people, so I stick around. So if you think me and the person running the somdsucks website are the only people who didn't like it there, you are pretty naive. There are plenty of people who like the lifestyle there, and plenty that don't. Simple as that. But really, I no longer need to post the horror stories from that place, others have been doing it quite regularly. We just have different levels of tolerance to certain things.

Not dramatic at all.

Bringing the NoVa crap a long time ago? Nope. I actually haven't said much about it since moving here because it is what I like and what I expect. if I find something I really like, I post it and people discuss it (trip to great falls, for example).

Cute, are you trying to make a point? Great Falls? You mean up there in McLean? I'm probably about the same distance to Great Falls as you are, so what's your point?

If you may remember, this whole war came up a few weeks ago when I was trying to introduce someone from Kentucky or Iowa or somewhere that not only is SOMD one of the most pleasent places to relocate to, but you are 1/2 hour to an hour to most of the other great landmarks of the metropolitan area. So you can save that Great Falls crap for someone else who's not paying attention. Sorry.

My grandmother's grandfather was a sharecropper in St. Mary's City and he hated it. He used to sit around all day and argue with landowners and fire his musket at the clouds and raise soybeans. My grandmother remembers how much he hated it. His name was Bolius Cramer and he died of Prune Belly Syndrome.

I would like to take this time to congratulate possibly the best Bullsh!ter on the planet, Roderick Rudd. It took me about 1/2 hour to read his posts and disect his site to finally realize that he is a joke. He's that tight, and his website is done perfectly, right on the verge of ridiculous, but still believable. His only fvckup came in the 3 pictures section, which I, with complete satisfaction, finally determined that it was all a sick joke.

But he continues to amuse me with his posts, over and over again. Of course I had to lookup Prune Belly Syndrome and would you believe that it actually exists?!?!?!?
