Out of respect for Aly Purvis - I started a new thread on the intersection change debate...

the only thing that would have prevented this accident was this young girl paying more attention. I'm sorry but thats the truth.

Maryland Route 4 (Southern Maryland Boulevard) intersect Briscoes Turn & Skinners Turn Road, Owings, Calvert County, Maryland.

Records show that just in the past 3 years there have been 11 accidents including one fatality at this intersection. Busloads of children cross here several times per day. An average of over 30,000 cars passed through this intersection each day in 2006 (data courtesy of MDSHA: Welcome to Maryland State Highway Administration).

There is a beacon flashing at the intersection of Route 4 at Briscoes/Skinners Turn Road. Traffic doesn't slow down here. This intersection is on a hilltop where there are dips in the highway in both directions. This makes crossings especially difficult, because with the dips in the road you can't properly judge the speed and gaps of oncoming traffic. Even the most experienced drivers have had close encounters there. Crossing here is risky, and many locals will drive extra miles in the wrong direction just to avoid it.

On Monday, November 5, 2007, at approximately 7:05 A.M., a two vehicle crash occurred. Both vehicles came to a final rest within the grass median approximately 120 feet south of the intersection. Alyson M. Purvis (17) did not survive the crash.

Kathryn M. Singleton (17) was the right front seat passenger and Marina M. Ybarra (16) was the right rear passenger. Both sustained incapacitating injuries and were flown to the Prince Georges County Hospital (Shock Trauma).

Ryan J. Purvis (14) was the left rear passenger. He sustained incapacitating injuries and was flown to the University of Maryland Shock Trauma Unit. He remains in critical condition.

All occupants in the Dodge reside in Chesapeake Beach, MD. Mr. Hernandez-Perlera had two passengers in the cab of the truck: Victor Acosta (39 of Temple Hills, MD) and Robert A. Morales (22 of Annapolis, MD).

All three occupants of the Isuzu truck sustained minor injuries and were transported to Calvert Memorial Hospital for treatment.

PLEASE DON'T LET THIS HAPPEN TO ANOTHER FAMILY!! We can petition for a light. My teen daughter's precious friend has lost her life. Can't we prevent another loss?
