Has anyone ever heard of SuperStar Learning Center near McKays in CHarlotte Hall, or their other location on Golden Beach Rd. If so, do you recommend it or what have you heard?

I have used them for years. I feel that the director holds the kids to high moral standard and is not afraid of telling the children what is appropriate and what isn't and communicating with the parents. In the summer time and dyas off, they do teaching lessons so the kids don't turn to mush brain.

Some of the "teachers" are a little young, but it seems like they are a good bunch right now.

I've heard good and bad.

From what I've heard, they have no tolerance for special needs children. One child I knew of, they told the county-paid therapist she couldn't come to the center to work with him anymore, despite the fact that they didn't have the specialists to help him. Another child with severe asthma was refused altogether because they didn't want to deal with it.

Other than that, I've never heard of any problems, no kids wandering away unsupervised, no serious injuries, abuse, etc. Since people tend to jump all over the bad stuff, the lack of information can be considered a recommendation. I've never heard raving reviews, but the couple of people I know with kids there are inclined to keep them there.

I have heard that many of students get new teachers often, or that some of staff does not stay long there, or that is seems new people are always coming aboard. I just want to get a good feel before sending my son there. Also, my son is 4, what do they do with children at that age there? Any teachers who you all recommend there?

What other daycare centers would one recommend down in that area? I saw some tiny little place on Rt 5, TLC, I think it was called. Looks like I would not want to send my child there, but I am always up for advice from others.

My daughter has been going there since she was 3. She is now 10. When she was about your son's age, it was preschool. They taught them their ABC's, colors, writing, shapes, etc. Even had a graduation when they went to kindergarten. I have never felt safer at any other daycare she has ever been at and she will continue to go there till she is 12. Plus they are open when alot of them arent! Good luck to you!

Annie's in Hughsville (behind Jazzercise) or Happy Faces in Waldorf if you go thru there.

(Disclaimer- owners of both are my relatives.)

There are three rooms there. 2, 3 and 4 year old. My daughter started when she was 2 and is 3 now. The same teachers have been there since she started...there is a lot of turnover with the teacher aids. They have a monthly calender that goes home for each class with the weekly theme and curriculum. They do teach...my daughter calls it school. It's more like a preschool then daycare.
I wouldn't recommend the 4 year old room there. I'm just not very fond of the teachers in that room.

All centers have a high turnover. It's the nature of the business. In order to keep their prices down to a level parents are willing to pay, they can't pay much in the way of salaries.

TLC is fairly new, maybe a year old, and it's small, so you won't find too many people who can tell you much about it. There was another center there before, but it didn't last long. I don't think there are any other commercial centers in that area, just family providers.

There is a place I pass going down oaks rd -turn left at wentworth nursery heading north and go about 2 miles it is on the right. I often see the kids out with a caretaker and they have alot of tiny tyke type playstuff and they are doing some construction now-probably enlarging-could be a good sign! I don't need daycare-just an observation you could follow up on-seems like the same area-they have a sign and phone number on the road-sorry the name escapes me. Good luck!
