Saw one reference for So. MD Orthopedics in the thread for Toxick, any other ortho's that people like or maybe more votes for them? Hubby has REALLY awful knees from a car accident YEARS ago, before we even met, and he is finding them to be acting up again.

Kirsten,

You lookin for an Orthopedic Surgeon? Back problems, or what?
I know two good ones in the Prince Frederick area.

Vince, it is hubby, he has really bad knees. He is in St. Marys CO so we are trying to stay there. He popped one of his knees last night and is in pain today so we need to get an orthopaedic doc, not necessarily a surgeon, for him to go and have his knees looked at and assessed soon.

I found Southern Md Orthopaedics listed in a previous thread that Toxick started and was just looking for other suggestions.

But hey give me your suggestions and if he can't get in over at SOMD Ortho maybe he will with the ones you suggest.

I've had knee trouble for years and found Stephen Smith in Silver Spring to be the best I've seen. I used to go to Cox, Travis, Henderson and all those guys in Leonardtown, but they just always push physical therapy over surgery. Dr. Smith is a former NBA basketball trainer and U.S. Soccer trainer. His group is listed in the Montgomery County phonebook under MOST, Metro Orthopedics and Sports Therapy. I'm from Bushwood, too.

Yeah, that's the one I PM'd to Kirsten. But it's his associate Dr. Cirillo that works on the knees. Dr. Griffith's specialty is backs.

I know I like SOMD ortho but I have never had a serious problem besides a fracture or two. But there is a great knee specialist that my dad went to. I will let you know the name once I ask him!

My dad went to a doctor Sablof? who is up in Waldorf that was really great when he had surgery. But, I might suggest that you go see Dr. Henderson with SOMD ortho before you go to a specialist. Henderson is who takes care of me with my knee and he goes through all possible solutions that don't include surgery. My dad recommends doing that route as well. Can you tell I inherited knee problems? Ha!

A friend's second back surgery was done by Dr. Griffith. He was not happy with the results compared to the first one. He wound up getting an infection in the wound, the incision looked like somebody used a dull knife to rip it open, and the results of the surgery were minimal.

I personally like Dr. Griffith, but I don't think I would recommend him for surgery. My friend has done more for rehabilitating himself than the doctors and therapists did.

Dr. Cirillo does everything possible before he'll resort to surgery. He did both my shoulders for the rotator cuff and I'm just about as good as new. No pain whatsoever. Haven't quite worked up to lifting as much weight as I used to, but that will come with time.

In the same office with Griffith and Cirrillo (sp) is Dr. Beck. He has done good by me. He replaced my left hip then trimmed down the lateral miniscus in the right knee and now is going to do something with the left knee. I obviously trust him.

Dr. Beck did the surgery on my husband's knee (torn ligaments) and did a great job. :yay:

I've never had a surgeon come out after the surgery and tell me exactly what was done (complete with pictures!). He spent about 15 minutes explaining exactly what to expect in my husband's recuperation. He is very caring and obviously committed to providing the best service to his patients.

I have problems with my back, legs, and knees, but have not had much luck with the doctors in Southern Maryland. It is congentive arthritis that runs in my mothers family. Can't remember what doctor it was...he has an office in Waldorf. Wasn't too thrilled with him. He sent me to the Bean Building for physical therapy, and as I couldn't make two or three visits a week, I gave up before the completion.

My co-workers are very much against Southern Maryland doctors, as they think they are not the most experienced. I don't know who to see, as I am not much on driving too far out, and my insurance (Aetna) would have to cover.

My sister had surgery on her shoulder several years ago after a fall, and I just noticed the other week what a shabby job they did at Calvert. Don't know her doctor, but whoever did it, apparently didn't have a good day!! I told her I would have sued, as it looks deformed!
