Lasik surgery

My husband is thinking about lasik surgery. We were just wondering how much it actually costs (I know that whole $299 an eye is BS). Anyone have it done? Where did you go? How did you like the surgery? And of course how much did it actually cost?
We do know these are his eyes here so we are not looking for the cheapest thing. We were just looking into whether we can afford it at this point in time.

TIA!

They call me ... Sarcasmo
My wife had hers done at the Wilmer Eye Institute at Johns Hopkins. I can't remember the price but I wouldn't trust my eyes to anyone else. OBTW, she LOVES not having to wear contacts or glasses anymore. I actually think she cried she was so happy :cokebottlelens:

Try doing a SEARCH on the forums, there are a couple of threads about Lasik on here already.

My 50th b'day gift to myself. Lasik plus in Annapolis. No complaints from me in any aspect. But remember everyone is different - It won't work for everyone. And the type of procedure can vary. There are too many factors to consider for it to be standard for all. EX: Some cornea's are thicker then others etc. Consult was free at the time for me.

It's been 4 years for me, so I don't remember the EXACT cost at the time. Somewhere in the neighborhood of 3K. But I also did the warranty for life on each eye regarding 'enhancements'. (If it needs to be touched up, there is no cost to me EVER).

Should be Huntin
Cost me $4,500 for both eyes 2 or so years ago. Had it done by TLC. There should be some old posts somewhere from me but it did not turn out good.

I had lasik about 3 years ago from TLC. I had the same doctor that did Tiger Woods. I only need one eye done and it cost me about $2500. It was the best thing I have ever done. I see GREAT!

Sux2b44 had it done at the Lasik Eye Center (TLC) in Annapolis - I think that is the name of the place, but it is right behind the Annapolis Mall... Same as Kom's wife, she loves it and was in tears when she could see without :cokebottlebottom: glasses on

She had stereo-scope done, where one eye is for distance and one is for close-up. It took her about 6 months or so to get 100% use to it... she says she has problems seeing at night, but she has always been like that.

It cost around $5000 total and there was 0% interest financing for 18 months and we went that route and paid it off. It is a LOT better than paying for contacts like we were doing - plus she can go back and get it done if her eyes ever change for free :yay:

I went to John Hopkins for an eye issue and they are the BEST eye doctors in the area, period... I did not know they did it, but the place she went to worked for her, and Tiger Woods according to the commercials :lmao:

Me too. Dr. Stark, who is a semi-famous cornea specialist. Cost me $3800.

I was 20/800 before, and 20/15 after. 8 years later and I'm still 20/20.

My near vision is starting to deteriorate, but they said it would as I got older. I just bought my first pair of reading glasses. :ohwell:

I had mine done 8 years ago at Lasik Plus in Annapolis. It was around 3 K, but I have the life time warranty. Well worth it. You do have to travel back the day after surgery, the next week and the next week after that (if I remember correctly!!), so the traveling is a pain, but again, well worth it!!

I got mine done a little over a year ago but I had to have "PRK", instead of lasik. It ended up costing $2100-- i had to have special surgery because my cornea is so thin... well worth the money... and i got it done at lasik vision institute in arundle

Not in our opinion. We (g/f's and I) would just make a day of it and go shop and have lunch at Macaroni Grill :drool:
(My treat as a thank you to them for going with me).

My mother last month just went to have this done, unfortunately she hasn't had it yet because she possibly has glocoma (sp?). Anyway, she went to the same place and was very impressed with them. They offered all the same "enhancements" as you mention. I don't remember the cost but 3K sounds close.

After visiting them she said she'll be going back if possible just for regular eye visits because they were much more accurate than her normal appointments.

I had mine done about 8 1/2 years ago by Dr. Robert Johnston in Virginia. I have one eye that has a thinner cornea and he had the special instrument to cut a thinner slice so that he could still do the LASIK. He is the founder of the Johnston Center for Sight. For some reason $5600 is sticking in my head as the cost of mine. That also includes one touch-up in my lifetime, if I need it. Like someone else, though, I was 20/15 right after and am 20/20 now. I also just had to get reading glasses, but this has to do with your eye muscles weakening, not the shape of your eye, which is what LASIK corrects. There is no surgery to correct the "old person's eyesight", which is just what happens when the eye muscles weaken over time.

I would definitely ask any doctor you talk to how many procedures they have done. If they have only done a couple of hundred, that is not enough. Most experienced doctors have done thousands by now.

FYI -- Wilmer Eye Clinic at Hopkins is by far the best opthamology place around, but they do not do free consults. When I went to see them before, it was something like $150 for the LASIK consult/workup. Probably worth it in the end, but something you should know up front.

Good luck -- it is completely worth it!!!

Lasik plus in Alexandria. I think I paid about three grand in 2004. Love it! My dim lighting at dusk vision is not so good but once it gets dark it is ok again. Bright light it is great. Make sure to keep using the eye drops for awhile after like they tell you. I let mine dry out the first week and I thought I was going blind. I called them and they told me to lube them up good and go take a nap. I did and when I woke up they were fine again. Scared me though!

I also had my surgery here. I had monovision done. At first I wasnt happy with it, but after a few months and my eyes adjusted. I love it.

There was just a piece about LASIK on NBC news. It pointed out that FDA doesn't know how safe the procedure is because they just don't have data.

When I got mine done, I had a co-worker who tried to get it done at the same time. JHU wouldn't do his, but one of the mall places would. He decided not to risk it if the best doctors said no.

That was something the NBC piece touched on. There are doctors out there who will perform LASIK on people who shouldn't have it done. If I were in the market today, I would either use JHU again or go to Dr. Dodd in Prince Frederick. It's worth paying twice as much if I can feel safe with the care I get.

Thanks everyone!! He is still thinking about it. Actually he just bought 6 months of contacts so after I found that out I told him he has to wait until they are gone so I think he may definately go that route after that.
