Motorist Banned Despite "Dogs were Driving" Claim
An Australian motorist has been banned from driving despite claiming his dogs were 'at the wheel' when his car nearly hit a policeman.
Christopher Mathew Ferri told officers one of his German Shepherd dogs accidentally put his paw on the accelerator while the other changed gears.
The 41-year-old from Adelaide had been pulled over by police after they clocked him driving at 86mph.
Witnesses said Ferri lost his temper when one dog escaped from the car as he was being questioned.
ABC News reports the dog jumped back in and Ferri's car shot forward, narrowly missing one of the officers.
A judge told Ferri his explanation for the accident "stretched credulity beyond breaking point", as the dogs could not have released the hand brake.
He was fined AUS$2,000 (about £730) and disqualified from driving for three months.
