Against Slots and giving parks to be as Casinos

Don't give more money to those who have proven they cant' manage it in the first place.

This State Government has taken us from annual surplus to projected bankruptcy. We are financing Rocky Gap State park to a 1 million dollar deficit each year in the misguided attempt to create a Resort. Now because of that failure they want to turn it into a Casino. Have sense people just say NO!!!

If stupid people want to give their money to the state by way of slots, we should let them. Better they give freely than I be forced to give to support them.

Giving away our State Parks to create a new problem for our citizenry is not the answer.

Giving more money to the Government to fritter away is not the answer.

Responsible spending is what is needed not a bigger Pot of money to dispose of.

More Money doesn't cure money problems. You wouldn't give an alcoholic alcohol so don't give a deficit spending government more money to spend at a deficit.

Then don't blame slots.......blame the politicians. Whether the money comes from slots or new taxes in your opinion they can't manage it.

We Need This

Slots have got to happen. Look at it this way: it brings in money we all need. If someone is going to drive to Delaware to try their luck, then let them drive to MD and spend the money here.

no need to throw money away

Fiscal responsibility is what we need more money won't fix that.

We don't need this nor the problems it brings. We threw out slots once. What do you think the reasons were then?

slots

The advertisements for it make me feel like they think I lack intelligence.

Money spent by marylanders out of state is not lost revenue for the state.

If we built a vegas community here it wouldn't change Vegas... Ask New Jersey.

They took a state park away from the citizens of western maryland and made a golf resort out of it that loses the citizens $1000000 a year for us. Now to make up for that bad decision they want to turn it into a slot haven to join the prisons they built there. They need to return the park to being a place for families not gambling. And if the Racetracks can't turn a profit as the business they are in then close them. As they already have done. Don't make the citizens of maryland pay for bad business with more bad business. We shouldnt be welfare for any businessman including the Sports Teams. None of the gambling revenue has reduced my taxes and none of the additional money I pay in taxes has been used wisely.

You wouldn't give an alcoholic more liquor and you shouldn't give politicians more money to spend unwisely.

They will just offset revenues already being used for schools fire and police that they are saying will benefit.

In the end the loser here is the responsible maryland taxpayer.

I'll be voting against slots. Like msgtech said, we already threw-out slots once before, because of all the hoodlums and crime it attracted.

And beyond that, the whole manner in which the slots referendum is being persued - by amending the Maryland Constitution - is just plain ridiculous. In addition to guaranteeing "life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness", the Maryland Constitution is also going to proclaim that a percentage of the slots money go to fund horse racing tracks... What hogwash! :twitch:

I'm voting against slots. If you are going to make slots legal, then fine....do it. Not just in 5 places, do it across the state. Why should 5 businesses get the handout? Why not let every bar in the state have slot machines?
And we need this issue to be an amendment to the state constitution? Get real....

I'm all for slots.

The racetrack issue is all political and there needn't be any connection with the slots. If horse racing doesn't support itself then let it die. I have no idea if this is common to most of horse racing but while channel surfing I came to a horse race. There were hardly any spectators, I've seen more spectators at our high school football games.

:yay: I am voting for slots in Maryland! :buddies:

No, you'll be voting for political graft and corruption.

Why is a constitutional amendment necessary to allow slots? They are not forbidden by the constitution.

Why are 5 specific locations the only place they will allegedly be allowed?
Where will the money be spent? The profit from slots is going to replace current school funding, not augment it. What will be the expense of running slots? Will ALL the income be determined to be expense for high paying Slot Comminisher jobs?

Do you really think we need to fund Casa de Maryland and provide health care for illegal aliens? If you do, than vote in favor of question 2

What most people don't understand is it is only for those 4 racetracks and Rocky Gap Resort, not every bar in the state.

That is exactly the problem inequity is being created to benefit the racetracks and the State park is being done to appease western maryland and get the votes not for any good financial reason
