Teen wounded in school rampage in critical condition: officials

Students and neighbors identified the shooting suspect as John Jason McLaughlin, the son of a sergeant in the local sheriff's office and a quiet and withdrawn teenager, who was teased by his peers because of his acne.

That seems to explain the how and the why.

This will set off a storm for sure, but if the kid thought that others in school were armed I bet he wouldn't have done it. And even if he did, he probably would not have harmed as many people before being stopped.
