Obama secretly ends program that let pilots carry guns

After the September 11 attacks, commercial airline pilots were allowed to carry guns if they completed a federal-safety program. No longer would unarmed pilots be defenseless as remorseless hijackers seized control of aircraft and rammed them into buildings.

Now President Obama is quietly ending the federal firearms program, risking public safety on airlines in the name of an anti-gun ideology.

If you don't trust a pilot to carry a gun, what the #### are you doing allowing him at the controls of a plane carrying 300 people? So, what's next - Replace the locking cockpit door with a nice beaded curtain??

Haven't you figured out that Obama is intent on destroying our country as quickly as possible?
Disarm pilots
Stop the sale of used military brass to re-loaders and dry up the supply of ammunition.

The populace must be disarmed for his private security force to be effective.

I think that airline security is a complete joke and TSA should be disbanded. With that said, I think it is absolutely wrong to unarm pilots.

It's not just wrong, it's irresponsible and dangerous. The captain must have the means to maintain control of the vessel, or plane, or he is simply another passenger with more responsibility, yet no way to enforce that.

How many weapons you think their are on AF 1?

I know, but I did hope he'd be more centrist than he has been. Nono, I dont even own a gun, but why is it a bad idea to have armed pilots?

I've been looking around, and I can't find anything to verify the Washington Times article. I need more info before I jump to conclusion........on the surface I can't understand why the administration would "BAN" guns from the cockpit... I really need more information, anybody know were I can find some.....

Are there any credible sources out there to verify that Obama is actually trying to remove the guns? If this is true, I'd say that it's not a good move. Have any airline pilots or their unions spoken out on this?

You wont find that yet. We can take the fact of the funding transfer as fact, the rest is conclusions drawn from that fact by the Times, and thats about it.
I believe their conclusion is accurate, but that's my belief, based on the connections the Pelosi crowd has with gun control organizations.

Like defunding Yucca Mountain, which effectively ends any chance for new nuclear power, its about doing one thing that has the effect you seek, without actually having to publicly do the second thing.

For the administration to stand up and proclaim the end of the armed pilot program would raise a ruckus, lots of folks think it s a good idea. So, you defund training, and add inspectors/inspections and morerequirements, til you find a point past which a pilot or airline isnt going to accept the extra burdens just to stay armed.

You didnt kill the program, but soon enough the enrollment rate drops to a point where you can say publicly that the program is a waste of money, since so few sign up for it, and kill it.

Isn't this the same thing the last administration did with stem cell research? They didn't ban it, they just didn't fund it.....

This looks like completely unnecessary harassment of the pilots. The 12,000 Federal Flight Deck Officers, the pilots who have been approved to carry guns, are reported to have the best behavior of any federal law enforcement agency. There are no cases where any of them has improperly brandished or used a gun. There are just a few cases where officers have improperly used their IDs.

Not to excuse the firing of the gun in the cockpit, but that discharge was due to the retarded type of holster/trigger locking mechanism that some dolt with no clue decided would be a good idea for the pilots to secure their weapons in.

By that same token, the bad guys don't know for sure one way or the either, right? Take away the right for a pilot to carry and they know for sure.

The ONLY objective I see that our first Muslim President has is to make our country safer and friendlier place for the terrorists.
