Obama to visit wounded U.S. troops in Germany

"WASHINGTON (AP) — President Obama will visit wounded U.S. troops when he travels to Germany next week.

The White House announced Thursday that Obama will visit the troops and their families at the military hospital in Landstuhl. Obama is visiting Germany on June 5 as part of a previously announced trip that includes stops in Saudi Arabia, Egypt and France.

The visit to Landstuhl was not on Obama's original itinerary.

Some Republicans had criticized the president during his European trip in April because he made no plans to visit the American military hospital.

He canceled a visit there during the presidential campaign last year after the Pentagon raised concerns about political activity on a military base."

While he is there he will see if he can get their private insurance companies to pay their medical bills.
