While most of us were sleeping last night, at approxmately 11pm. call went out for subjects stranded way up the swamp in the area of Bel Alton, off Bel Alton Newtown Rd. closest access to the location was determined through a cornfield. I beleive the victim had called 911 on his cellphone:shrug: advising of his perdictament. This brought all kinds of fire and EMS units and boats and dive teams to the area. It was determined that boats and zodiac's would not be able to enter the swamp and ATV's were then called in to navigate up through the swamp in a attempt to locate the subjects. MSP troopers 2 and 7 were called in the assist. It took at least 3 hours to locate and to reach the victims. All 3 ATV's (one from Newberg and 2 from Charles County Emergency Services) at one time or another all got stuck. Rescuer's all had to wade through knee deep water for several 100 yards to reach the victims, turned out to be a 40yr male, 14yr old male and a 9 year old male. With the help of Trooper 2 lighting the way all victims and rescuer's made it out safely. This whole event proably took about 5-6 hours and 2 of the ATV's were left stuck till sometime this morning.
