Somer Thompson
ORANGE PARK, Fla. -- Clay County authorities report that the body of a small child was found in a landfill near Folkston, Ga., where Orange Park's garbage is dumped.

"We hope and pray that it's not the body of Somer, but the garbage that was in that area was collected from Orange Park," Beseler said.

Clay County detectives found the body about 3:30 p.m. Wednesday at a the Chesser Island Landfill in Charlton County. (continued here)

Oh GOD, my heart just sank when I read this. I saw her mom on the today show this morning. She was just heartbroken to say the least when she was missing, I cant not even imagine what she is going through now. Just disturbing and sad.

I suspect the boyfriend. I cannot put my finger on it and say exactly why I feel that way but he was the one in charge at the time she went 'missing.'

I will bet you $10 that whoever did this has prior offenses and was set loose by our "justice" system so that they could prey on children again. You know, after they paid their debt to society and all.

It would be really great if our courts would keep these animals off the street for good so our children can be safe.

I was hoping for a better outcome. Her family must be so upset :frown:

The sheriff told the girl's mother Wednesday night that her daughter had been identified. The mother, he said, was devastated.

"It was the hardest phone call I've ever had to make in my life, and I hope I never have to make another one like that," Beseler said at a Thursday morning news conference
.
I did find this a little odd. He called the mother  Dont you think he would have gone to her house to inform her and console her?

Horrific ending to a horriffic nightmare for the parents. The news stopped me in my tracks this morning and made me sit and pray for a bit.

I totally agree with the "Hug your kids" sentiment. Oddly enough, over the weekend, I realized I hardly ever hug my boys (13 and 17) except in church, so I make it a point to go out of my way to do it now.

You know what? It feels good and know that my knuckleheads know I'm not going crazy, they accept it a little easier. :huggy:

Still. I'd love to put a bullet in the head of the bastard(s) that did this.

Does anyone else find it odd that so many of these cases the past few months are coming out of Florida. This is the 3rd one correct?

I said the same thing to hubby last night. WTH is going on down there? But it happens everywhere. This is so heartbreaking, makes me want to never let my son out of my sight. I know, unrealistic to feel that way but I can't imagine life without him.
