How about pics after someone is found quility? How would you feel about your pic being posted here because you were merely accused of a crime?

You didn't look at the photos did you? :sarcasm:

Interesting that I could not find a 'disclaimer' on that newspapers site saying these folks were 'innocent until proven guilty in a court of law'. (Or however that disclaimer goes).

I don't think America's Most Wanted or the FBI's most wanted list does either.

The Chicago Tribune states
Arrest does not imply guilt, and criminal charges are merely accusations. A defendant is presumed innocent unless proven guilty and convicted.

There's some freaky people out there.

Number 120 & 121 of the Chicago Tribune mugshot link are the women who glued the cheating husbands penis to his leg.

I agree with that. Back home (NY), Newsday started posting the local mugshots (everything from DUIs to murder arrests) with a disclaimer that says the people haven't yet been convicted. They go on to say that they will not publish updates if these people are found innocent.

Every so often, I read Newsday online to see what's going on back home. I clicked on the mugshot section and a guy I knew had been arrested for meeting a hooker in a hotel that he found on Craigs List. I'm sure his mother & sister were really proud of his mug being all over the paper.

First, I suppose if I ever got arrested and my picture was posted it wouldn't bother me as long as they posted everyone's picture who was arrested.

They post names if you're arrested here, what difference does putting your picture with your name make?

Most American's understand the presumption of innocence concept and legal right.

However, I would venture to say that most people arrested, in the end, are guilty of some crime.

First, the presumption is not a true presumption at all.[1] An objective observer in the position of the juror would reasonably conclude that the defendant probably committed the crime.[2] The observable facts clearly support such an inference - the defendant has been charged with a crime, is present in court, represented by an attorney and all the participants in a criminal trial are also present and ready to proceed.[3]
The presumption of innocence is in fact a legal instrument created by the law to favor the accused based on the legal inference that most people are not criminals.[4] It is literally considered favorable evidence for the accused that automatically attaches at trial.[5] It requires that the trier of fact, be it a juror or judge, begin with the presumption that the state is unable to support its assertion.[4] To ensure this legal protection is maintained a set of three related rules govern the procedure of criminal trials. The presumption means:[1]
  1. With respect to the critical facts of the case - whether the crime charged was committed and whether the defendant was the person who committed the crime - the state has the entire burden of proof.
  2. With respect to the critical facts of the case, the defendant does not have any burden of proof whatsoever. The defendant does not have to testify, call witnesses or present any other evidence, and if the defendant elects not to testify or present evidence, this decision cannot be used against them.
  3. The jury or judge is not to draw any negative inferences from the fact the defendant has been charged with a crime and is present in court and represented by an attorney. They must decide the case solely on evidence presented during the trial.
The concept of innocent until proven guilty refers to legal, as opposed to factual guilt. In every case, the defendant either committed the offence or did not, a fact that remains true regardless of whether the jury acquits or convicts. The phrase means simply that a person is not legally guilty until a jury returns a verdict of guilty, which is little more than a tautology.

In case you're wondering what 'tautology' means:
It is an unnecessary or unessential (and sometimes unintentional) repetition of meaning, using different and dissimilar words that effectively say the same thing twice (often originally from different languages).

'free gift', 'unsolved mystery', 'added bonus' are examples....

The Chicago Times links the person's picture to the story of their arrest and outcome (if the legal outcome has occurred).

Oh I agree, I was kind of being sarcastic but should have used the :sarcasm:. I'm with you, I like to know what type of people I'm living next to. If someone in my neighborhood gets arrested for rape, murder, etc, I'd want to know. I just feel bad for the few people who's pics appear that are actually innocent. But I still look at the mug shots to see if I know anyone.

Got it - Agree that if you are found innocent, that fact should be pubic knowledge as well.
