So the big news in Indy...

focuses around whether a fan who was at the Manning Bowl on Sunday should have been forced to return the helmet of a Giants player who "inadvertantly" threw his helmet into the stands.

On the radio this morning, lots of discussion and disagreement abounded. What's your take?

Story is here: Giants' Brandon Jacobs apologizes after tossing his helmet into stands vs. Colts - The Huddle: Football News from the NFL - USATODAY.com

I didn't see it but apparently Colt's security forcibly stripped the helmet from the man's possession after he refused to give it back and returned it to the Giant's bench.

The fan should have offered the helmet back voluntarily. They're expensive and it's not his.

Perhaps Brandon "2nd string" Jacobs shouldn't have been a cry baby, known his role and sat his ass down instead of hurling his helmet ACCIDENTLY into the 10th ROW of seats. Whatever goes into the stands should have been fair game just as it is with any other sport. At least the Giants aren't talking about the ASS whooping they took at the hands of Big Brother! hahahaha

You are right, the helmets are expensive and the guy that threw it into the stands should have to buy himself a new one. That way he would certainly learn not to throw it into the stands again.

At some games T shirts are shot into the stands by slng shot and other things are sometimes tossed into the stands. Anything deliberately tossed into the stands is fair game.

I wonder if they'd have left the helmet if a Giants fan had caught it.

But Jacobs' aim was a lot like Eli's wasn't it?

The security guy should be fired.....he has no right to get physical with the fan......athletes throw things into the crowd all the time....if a football doesnt make the net its whoever gets it....home run/foul ball/bats that go into the stands are the fans....if the player wants it back, many times they will offer an autographed replacement.....if it's a record setting ball they will 9 times out of 10 have to buy it back.....there is the occasional fan who gives it back out of the goodness of their hearts..and are awarded with authographed stuff...

If Jacobs is stupid enough to throw his helmet into the stands, not only should he lose his helmet he should be fined.....if someone wasn't paying attention, because I don't know, they were watching THE GAME, they could have been smacked in the face with it and hurt...
