AP Interview: Clinton says give Dems more time

Bill Clinton asked the American people Wednesday to give the Democrats two more years to dig the country out of the economic hole he blamed on the Republicans - and then, if the Democrats fail, "throw us all out."

The former president said in an interview with The Associated Press that the Democrats can still pull the November midterm elections out of the fire if they go on the offensive.

The Democrats won "a lot of exceedingly marginal seats" in the last two elections and have to assume they will lose some of them this year, but "whether these elections will be a big setback for the Democrats is yet to be determined," he said.

"If the Democrats can make this a choice, not a referendum, they can win," Clinton said. "If it's a referendum on anger, apathy, laced with amnesia, they're going to have a problem."

He urged Democrats to start countering GOP claims with facts and statistics demonstrating what President Barack Obama's administration has done to avert a more severe downturn and what Republican promises to roll back key legislation would mean for voters.

"I think the Democrats ought to stand up and say ... `You gave them eight years to dig this hole, and to double the debt of the country, and not to produce any jobs, and then to have a financial collapse and all this calamity. At least give us four to dig out of it,'" Clinton said.

"If we're wrong, throw us all out. But don't bring back the people that dug the hole."

"At least give us four to dig out of it"? You dumbass, Democrats have been in control of Congress since '06! TIME IS UP, BUBBA! :buttkick:

I would say his entire premise is fallacious.

History shows us the socialists have already had MORE than enough time to prove their ideas are a collective failure.

Two more years will not make anything different. KICK THEM OUT NOW!

If he is urging us to give the Democrats two more years to destroy America I will have to agree that two more years should do the trick.

If we want anything left of America after two more years we need to get the Socialist- Global A-holes the hell out of Washington. And that includes you Bubba bent crank.

No Thanks, we think we'll throw out as many of you as we can now, it will take 2 more years to get the rest of you out anyway.

In My Opinion
Sounds strange to hear Clinton say that the dems could lose if the election is laced with amnesia, Considering that it was mostly his demands that banks make foolish loans to people that could not afford them, you would think he might WANT a little amnesia out there when it comes to voting for a party.

I was thinking the same thing MMDad, they have already had four years, at least in the house.

I am soooo freaking USED to being called names by these guys it almost doesn't register. They can never win my confidence.

This is precisely the reason why the conservative media refers to them as "elites". It's not intellectual superiority, it's snobbery. They can't understand how you can disagree with them and not simply be stupid for doing so (or racist, or greedy, or any of a host of names).

You know, there are some fundamental differences between liberals and conservatives which have nothing to do with logic and have a lot more to do with passion, priorities and especially - trust.

Liberals trust government to solve problems. Conservatives trust themselves to do it. I hate, hate, HATE the idea of being dependent on anyone for my needs, even though from time to time I've had no other choice. I hate having my decisions made for me, and I hate having my choices taken from me, even if it's "for my own good".

In a different discussion, a liberal acquaintance summed it up neatly - who do you trust with your (xxxxx), the government or some corporation? I answered without hesitation, some corporation BECAUSE if he does a terrible job, someone ELSE who wants my business will do it better, and if he wrongs me, I can haul his ass into court and kick the crap out of him. But if it's the government, you have no choice at all, and you can't fight back. And the government has an atrocious track record when it comes to running business.

I'll go along with that one. But maybe they can do it in less than two years if they try real hard, after all look what Obama has accomplished in the short time he's been in office.
