Liberals vs. The Democratic Establishment

First of all, it is well known on this forum that I am a liberal. And I don't hide behind the "Progressive" label, it's just a bull#### word.

I always thought I was in the minority when I began turning on Obama late last year. Well, it turns out more and more liberals are beginning to turn on Obama, and many moderate liberals wanted Pelosi gone. But it seems the Democratic base has turned its nose at us.

I don't know, what's the conservative media saying? Do Rush and Beck realize hardcore liberals are turning their back entirely on The Democratic Party?

Oh, and I pay no attention to what Oliver Willis, Rachel Maddow and Ed Schultz say. They want to downplay our genuine frustration, so be it.

PS, I am registered Independent (changed party affiliation in January) and voted for Roscoe Bartlett and Bob Ehrlich as my way of flipping the bird at the DNC.

Can you tell us why you are turning on Obama and the Dem establishment?
When I hear of liberals who are turning on Obama, the reason given is that Obama is not going far enough to the left (which boggles my mind of course -- what's to the left of Marxism??).

My problem is the Democratic Party disenfranchising Blue Dog Democrats and basically throwing them out of the party. The fact is, no Blue Dog Democrats, no Speaker Pelosi, no Democratic majorities. No moderate Democratic voters, John McCain would be President today with Republican majorities in both the House and Senate, and a very Conservative Supreme Court. No blue dog Democrats, no bailout (believe me, this was a tough pill to swallow but it worked).

And you'd be surprised how many moderate Democrats want the Bush Tax Cuts renewed... it's the only compromise right now. If they want GOP cooperation on middle class tax cuts, they've got to renew the Bush tax cuts. End of story.

And, once the Public Option was dropped from the Healthcare Bill, Nancy Pelosi should've dropped the whole thing.

Once the Public Option was dropped, the HCR bill lost A LOT of support. Passing a bill that was purely a massive taxpayer handout to the insurance companies only pissed off the left.

Obama should've just swallowed that loss and moved on. Once that got passed, the public turned against him.

They're going to go UP, and the cost of the bill is being passed down to the States.

Like I said, Pelosi should've just swallowed the loss, eaten her crow and moved on to more important things. Instead, she let her ego get in the way and the end result was the Republicans taking the House.

It astounds me how people couldn't see who Obama and his progressive following were. It astounds me that those who voted for him had no clue what he meant by "Fundamentally transform America" and "Change".

I'm relieved that it took actually putting him in power to give Americans an opportunity to see the socialist he really is and that this form of governing is not only unacceptable for America but also dangerous to our liberties.

Yes, and then when we get single payer, the goobermint has total control over you. Is that what you are so hot and heavy for, dipstick? Maryland hasn't had a Comptroller since Louis Goldstein left.

But I appreciate the sentiment in the OP. Being a Democrat in MD never used to mean being a 'PG County Hoyer Democrat'*. Years ago it meant something else entirely and today's 'Blue Dog Democrat' is about as close to that as you'll find these days.

And years ago, Steny was not a "PG County Entitlement Dem" either. I voted for the man many times..but now I work hard to get him out. He proved to be the consumate political chameleon...like so many others.

Then why did they vote for the same batch of liberals to maintain that status quo? Why do districts, predominately made up of liberals, have the largest demand for entitlements?

I don't think most welfare recipients are liberal. In fact, I doubt they know anything about politics and wouldn't be able to identify themselves as anything. They're not part of the political discourse, they're THE problem right now.

I'm all for TEMPORARY assistance for needy people. But it needs to be temporary. I mean, how can physically disabled people show up to work everyday and people with no disability at all qualify for disability?
