Punish the rich?

So, we keep hearing how the super-rich should pay more, so they want to raise the income tax for anyone making more than $250,000.

Question: How many of the super rich actually make that much from salary? Don't they really make their big $$$ from capital gains? I read in Forbes that Warren Buffet makes $100,000 yr. from salary. He pays less income tax than his secretary.

So, as I see it, raising the income tax will not impact Obama's super rich buddies like Buffet, Soros, Oprah, Gore, etc. But it will definitely have a huge impact on small businesses. Am I wrong?

See, Obama really is looking out for the working class - just as long as you don't want a job or anything. And he is so much against the "Wall Street Fat Cats" - unless they have a lot of money, donate to his campaign, run labor unions, or work for Goldman Sachs or AIG or GM or GE.

It will impact small businesses if their profit rises above $250K. Remember that's their profit, after all expenses, payroll, insurance, etc. have been paid.

And that is one darned small small business that we are talking about with the 250K profit threshold.

Thre is a huge disconnect between the terms 'super rich' or even 'rich' and the 250K incomce tax threshold. The media and administration keep equating the two which is dead wrong.

They were talking on the news how they want to redefine 'middle class' to encompass anyone earning up to 1M a year salary.

So all the super rich with less than 1M a year in actual SALARY become middle class.... and suddenly they can say "SEE! We fixed it!! Look how well the average middle class person is doing, earning 980,000 a year!!"

I make 64K. I guess I'm wayyyyy below the poverty line. :lmao:

Jackasses.

But the super rich friends of Obama get a free pass. Gee, that makes me feel all hopey-changey.

I'm guessing that's gonna kill any business thinking of hiring more staff. Why hire more people when you can just piss away the money giving it to Uncle Sam?

Bingo. We have two open positions that will remain unfilled indefinitely...on purpose even though business is sound enough to hire. Why? The two biggest reasons:

1. Future Health care cost undertainties.
2. Future Tax rate uncertainties.

To be honest, even if the second gets 'fixed' by an extension of the current rate structure..the first is enough to keep those positions unfilled.

MM, the last 10 years or so has seen this conversation just absolutely fall apart in favor of socialism, ie, the current rates are, at the very minimum, fair and the lowest they could possibly be. I mean, no one is arguing that 36% is high, way too high.

We've lost touch with the argument 'who better to have a dollar, the individual or the government?'. Yes, we need to fund our government but, if you make a million, it is nothing short of insane (aka 'communism') to argue that it is in any way 'fair' or proper for you to pay $360,000 of it to the government.

I want to hear someone make that point. Long and loud. It hasn't been McConnell. Or Boehner. Or Steele. Or even Palin or Romney or McCain.

But the masses believe that even though you work to earn every penny of that million you can "afford" to pay more. As long as the libs play class warfare, poor people will still feel it's justice to punish successful people.

My point is the bald hypocrisy of claiming to target the uber-rich, but in reality giving them a free pass.

If the dems had kept control of the house tax hikes across the board would be guaranteed. Liberals are not least bit interested in fixing the economy and using taxes to reach that goal. They are interested in control; of everything. The only way they can do this is to further destroy the economy and render every person and business – especially small businesses – destitute.
