Divorce through Mediation in Maryland

I also thought a mediator could be engaged to handle a divorce for me, but I didn't have any luck finding an attorney that felt the same way. If the split is amicable and you don't have children, you can hire an attorney to draft up the separation agreement to document who gets what - but the attorney can only represent one party, either you or your spouse. You'll also need an attorney to file the divorce papers with the court, but you cannot be awarded a final decree of divorce until you've lived separately for at least 365 consecutive days. The separation agreement isn't filed with the court; it's included in its entirety (usually) when you petition the court for your divorce.

Get the separation agreement finalized as soon as possible, and good luck.
